The cops place a 'unattended' car with cameras, mics and a engine cut off devices in high crime areas.

There are people who make bad decisions everywhere. The idea seems entertaining; I'm sure some folks will read into it too deeply though.

You don't want your car to break down on the highways.
A gang could strip your car within a few minutes and sell the parts within hours depending on the market.
