ok.to.reduce 6" ducting to 4" on exhaust?

debating whether or.not to remove this light from the closet and use a 4" hose to pump hot air into the attic.

its a rental so i dont feel like cutting anything out the cieling

other option i guess is to let the hose bleed a little on the sides near the hole
that's just a 3" pvc to show its just aabout 4"

i guess i could grind it out to 6-7" and replace the light fixture with 6-7" when i move. i doubt theyd notice

I have a 4 inch ducting throwing my heat into a cooler room in a similar fashion.

6" duct is just pointed out the door right now but that means i cant lock the door to this.room. i never know.when someone might let themselves in to fix.something....

I use a similar set-up...throwing heat from a bedroom in a basement thru a similar light hole that I thought you were asking about. is DEF try to get it going into another room

yea i boosted my LED to 2.7a and gets moderately warm. like 80-85°F if i close the door. which is twice a day while in class...

There is a 6" recessed remodel can light at the box store,you can replace that existing light with.use a key hole saw and cut out the drywall and remove the old ceiling box,when you move just clip the new can light in its place.

To answer your question, yes its ok to use a reducer to match your 6inch duct to a 4inch. It will have an effect on fan, make it work harder and possibly increase noise slighlty. If you have two light holes you can remove that would be better, splitting the duct with a Y splitter and reducing both to 4" would be less effort for your fan. But if not your first idea will work.

I've got 6" reduced to 4" then pvc to a dryer vent looks and sounds normal
