On Tax Day ... Thank the Rich.

Here's the tax table for 2006. If a person has a taxable income of a million dollars in a year, he/she pays $350,000 in federal taxes. That doesn't count state, county and city taxes. Is that not enough, Med? If not ... then in your opinion, how much would be enough?

This is an amusing thread!

tenn1234 has it exactly right....good post!
Danky has pinpointed the difference in philosophy on display here.
No recitation of statistics or evidence will enlighten those among us who wish to promulgate the politics of envy and greed.

Here's my question, How does greed play into the politics of poor people, I get the envy thing, but greed just doesn't play! is it greedy to want to be fed and have comprehensive health care, to have a roof over your head and clothes on your back, to want opportunities for your children that the middle class used to have. The old addage that if you work hard and keep your nose clean, you will succeed, is dead and burried. All you'll get is a sore back and a clean nose.

"is it greedy to want to be fed and have comprehensive health care, to have a roof over your head and clothes on your back, to want opportunities for your children that the middle class used to have."

The resounding answer to the above question is NO, of course not! We all want the comforts of a good life. Its human nature.

If you are a politician and want the votes of the poor, just promise them the unearned at someone else's expense. That's the politics of greed, Med.

I guess we see greed in two separate ways! ["Aquisitive or selfish desire beyond reason"] merriam webster! I dont think it unreasonable to expect health care or a decent living in the richest country on the planet! Of course you'd have to do something to earn it! Your continued onslaught on this tenet is highly selfish in and of it's self!

You're right of course, we DO see the term "greed" differently. Here's my take: If a person wants to accumulate money and possessions through self interest, without violating the rights of another in the process, that's all good and well. If a person tries to accumulate all the goodies by screwing over his fellow man, then that's greed negativatly directed. I'm against that. Also, if a person wants what others produce without earning it, by just assuming that it is their's to take, then thats the worst kind of greed because its immoral.

I guess you are a tiger in the jungle of man, top of the food chain. Everyone below you deserves the crumbs left after you are through feeding off the land. I think my old grizzeled amigo, you have a lot of company in tigerland.. Many tigers are out hunting for the holy grail, Money! Me, I'm just a coyote, I'm watching you tigers destroy the land and wondering whats next. It seems like you tigers have unsatiable appetites, and don't care how you get your rewards. when you have destroyed everything, and the land is barren, the only thing left will be cockroaches, and a few coyotes, coyotes can live on cockrtoaches. And thats pretty much your plans, feed them cockroaches, especially the poorer ones.. I think my friend, you ought to review your "Christian values". It seems to me your about as much Christian as Bush, Talk Christian and act asshole. Sorry but I couldn't find a more appropriate word!
