Oregon Will Become Second State to Offer Free Community College

Not really. Lots of people have college degrees and can barely operate a microwave. Most colleges just make you regurgitate information back to them in exchange for your money.
Some of the more learned places do teach critical thinking, but the vast majority just want your cash and could care less if you can put two and two together.

You can learn everything for free on the internet anyway.

Governments have made themselves the final arbiter of who knows what and only offer degrees to paying customers. Private colleges know this all too well and have a special accreditation club they all belong to and they won't accept the university of the free internet as a member. Maybe you can CLEP a few classes, but all the upper level stuff you are going to have to pay for in order to get a piece of paper that says you know enough in a subject to pass their tests.
BUUULLLLLSSSSHIT Its true that some college students manage to avoid an education but that's not true for most. In any case, I said "When the student applies himself", perhaps this represents the minority or students but I don't think so. The internet can't replace a college science lab, nor does it replace the most wonderful interactions available between the student and teacher that occurs only when both are trying to do their best. I hate it when the cynical like you represent the kind of effort that goes on by most in the college system as some sort or slacking. Students work their asses off to learn and you cast shade on them. shame on you.

if the education you received is representative of the problems you're complaining about, then i believe you.

I hope trade schools become more affordable some day for young people. The trade school I went to 23 years ago was almost 11k for one year. I am sure it cost more now.

Oregons qualification.

To qualify, students must have applied for the state and federal aid grants available to them, lived in Oregon for at least one year, and maintained a grade point average of at least 2.5. They also must enroll in community college within six months of completing their high school degree or its equivalent.
