Not really. Lots of people have college degrees and can barely operate a microwave. Most colleges just make you regurgitate information back to them in exchange for your money.
Some of the more learned places do teach critical thinking, but the vast majority just want your cash and could care less if you can put two and two together.
You can learn everything for free on the internet anyway.
Governments have made themselves the final arbiter of who knows what and only offer degrees to paying customers. Private colleges know this all too well and have a special accreditation club they all belong to and they won't accept the university of the free internet as a member. Maybe you can CLEP a few classes, but all the upper level stuff you are going to have to pay for in order to get a piece of paper that says you know enough in a subject to pass their tests.
