Out Of This World Complete Grow Kit temp issues. ROOKIE NEEDING SOME VETERAN ADVICE!

Hello All,

I am BRAND new to the whole growing scene. I know that LED lighting has come a long way so I decided to purchase the "Out of This World Grow kit" from HTG Supply. Setup details in link. (http://www.htgsupply.com/Product-Out-Of-This-World-Grow-Kit) However I am having some temp issues. I rigged some 6 inch ducting from my A/C vent on my ceiling into the tent. You would think pulling in cold air would solve the problem, however Im thinking I may have shot myself in the foot by upgrading the order to the 7-band 240W LED light instead of the UFO it comes with. Complete Output comes out to 456 Watts including the T5s. Maybe a little too much lighting for such a small setup? As soon as my thermostat reaches set temp (usually between 69-72 degrees) and my A/C in my house cuts off, the temps creep into the low 80s. I am aiming to keep temps between 65-75 at all times. Tough to do in southern Louisiana even in the fall months!

I don't really have an EXHAUST set up, just the INTAKE set up. All I have is the vent open on the back, bottom side of the tent. After doing as much research as I could stand I don't really know which direction to go in from here. Some guidance would be great!! Some things I've considered based off of my research are a portable A/C so the thermostat can be inside the tent itself, an exhaust system, maybe doing away with the T5s all together, putting the LED in an air cooled hood, and getting a Co2 setup so the plants can thrive in the higher temp environment.

Responses are much appreciated!

Exhaust is what is needed to vacate the air in the room to reduce temps, also you are begging for powdery mildew without exhaust.. Go get it!

Exhaust at the highest point of the tent/room! Portable ac units are really inefficient unless it has dual hoses, the unit generates a lot of heat to be exhausted! So first things first! Exhaust!

Guy** ha..Also, when the exhaust arrives do you think I will still need to have the intake ducting rigged onto the A/C vent in my room? Or Will I be able to remove the intake ducting and just draw the air in from the room itself?

Depends on the ambient temp! with an exhaust you can pull air from outside the tent with negative pressure! Just cool the room outside of the tent and draw that air into your tent with open vents on your tent, If possible!

Low 80's for temp with lights on isn't really a bad thing, if were talking 85+ I would be worried, but 75-85 is ideal for most plants. You should be able to use the GrowBright 6" inline duct fan and exhaust the tent with it and get those temps lowered a few degrees. You can duct your AC close to the intake vent on the tent if the exhaust fan didn't lower it enough. Also, if odor is a concern, you might want to get a carbon filter now before you get busted by the smell.

Thanks for the reply man! If my memory serves me correct I don't think the 6" inline duct fan is compatible with carbon filter setups. At least thats what HTG Supply says on their website. So I would need to go ahead and purchase an inline fan that would be compatible with the filter, right?

Honestly man, it has been a learning process for me. I've had the tent for a few weeks now and I'm finally starting to figure it out after making several different adjustments and trying different things! The selling point for me on this tent in particular was the fact it was a LED setup and it wouldn't make my electricity bill go thru the roof! That being said I haven't started growing in it yet but I'm confident I won't be disappointed. I will be posting a link to my video in a few minutes so you will get an idea of what to expect if you decide to order it for yourself!

90w UFO - tbh, other than seedlings i would personally steer clear.

Having done my homework on the Lighthouse Blackstar 135W, I'm confident that the HTG version that I'd substitute for the standard 90w will not only work for my meager purposes but is actually the same unit with a different name on it. I'm more interested in the overall quality of the tent and accompanying accessories, the OP is the first person I've come across with the actual kit I'm interested in so I figured I'd ask him about his experience so far. Thank you, however, for your input.

No worries mate but why not go for more like 200w?

Well even if he stuck with the 90 Watt UFO that the original kit comes with you still have to account for the 4, corner T5s that the kit comes with. That being said the kit comes with 306 Watts to be exact. Check out the link to the video I posted.

More PAR overhead will always be better no matter what sidelighting is employed.
