make them grow slow,yeah...
i only one person who still uses seeds...
they start them (so they say) on jan 1st...
it don't really matter...
its butter to start them inside

I would wait til june then unless you have a green house and run light deprivation with supplemental heat and humidity controls winter growing isnt gonna be rewarding.. The low temps, lack of sunlight (cloudy days), moisture (rain on cloudy days!!) will all effect the plants unless you significantly change their environment.

Check your frost dates. Usually you plant in March, but if you have a cold frame you can start in February. Now if you have a good indoor setup you can start now and get monster sized plants. However if you start anytime in March (after danger of frost) you'll be very happy with your yield

looking to do a complete outdoor grow from seed when would be a good time to start

hey nocolorjustgreen, I live in southern california...i used to grow those cannabis all round year, even rainy and gray cloudys but most time we will have sunshine a lot..not to worry about that but you gotta worry about the frost ...right now im germinating some beans indoor...ill throw em outdoor about end of this Feb.

for best result, start germinate indoor with small CFL, whenever you feel that plants are ready for outdoor then do it, buddy.

happy gardening.

I've done this in cali (north & central) and got a lot of hermies cuz of the lack of daylight.. The bay is the worst tho some parts the sun doesnt come out for like weeks and can rain for weeks at a time too especially jan/feb (with a week in the 90s right in between lol)..
Here in so cal its been gettin pretty cold at night, even during the day its been close to frosting on the coast.. I would really recommend to only do indoor before june if you are looking for a bullet proof plan..
Seeded and more airy, kinda scragly lookin bud can be useful especially for a newb, but I'd like to see others skip that stage in their growing experience cuz mine went on too long in high school lol..
You will actually get bud tho, some will just dwarf on you..
I would recommend putting them outside the last week of march when we get more than 12 hours of daylight and tarping them to induce 12/12.. you will be smoking greenhouse bud by outdoor planting season.

Hey Guys. I have a chain link dog kennel 12x12 converting it to greenhouse (extra security). I want to know what kind of plastic I should buy.I live in SFV SOCAL. I want to know if I should purchase this kind of plastic.
http ://www.greenhousemegastore.com/product/4-year-greenhouse-film/plastic-greenhouse-film

Or this http://www.greenhousemegastore.com/product/thermal-ac-greenhouse-film/plastic-greenhouse-film

I will be using the plastic for the winter months, and replacing with shade cloth for the summer months. Or combo summer plastic top & shade sides.

My concern is that the plastic will be either to hot or to cold. Since it has been cold here/ hot. damn sfv weather. If someone else lives in my area can tell me what they had luck with I would appreciate the help.

I too live in SOCAL and am thinking of doing an outdoor this year. If you plant early say April you just end up with a longer veg cycle right? Unless running an autoflower.

Also if you are planting in a cold frame does anyone have any suggestions on plant spacing? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Plzzz dont plant b4 june if you dont have supplemental lighting or are doing light dep...
In terms of plant spacing expect runts with one cola like a cloine ran straight in a flood tray indoor... The quality will be garbage tho.. Reveg may kill you at the end of flower too..

Cold frames is just for the seedling phase and first couple of weeks. Spacing isn't to critical, 6 in to a foot is about right, but use your judgment. It also depends on size of the cold frame

first of all im not trying to disrespect but I disagree with your statement about hermie and "dwarf" part. Its very natural for any plants to bloom on 12/12 cycle, no hermie unless its genetic traits.

for last two years , i ve been growing strains all round year. I have no hermie issue.

My friend in Orange County had a Sativa he started indoors and put them outside in April. It immediately went into flower and eventually it did hermi on him. It was his first or second year though and it's my guess that he didn't change the light schedule to match the outdoors and/or didn't take his time hardening it off. Although I could be wrong, it could also have been the strain. I highly doubt it was purely the outdoor or rather lack of daytime because I grown many Sativa and hybrids and I only live an hours drive and have never had that problem. Then again I'm sure there is still lots for me to learn

Mine were started 11-26-12.. used a make shift GH they are about 4" now.. :( I planted last year on 2-18-12 harvested 1 around 8-25-12)

this years grow during the "winter" was merely a test to see if I can keep em alive and it if was worth an earlier start...

temps got as low as 22 here..

No disrespect taken, i welcome the suggestion that it was my lack of growing experienced that caused the problems, id like to think I learned a lot since then.. It just happened on me twice with completely dif strains both sunny spots i dono maybe i just noobed them both.
