Outdoor grow

So a buddy and I are starting a 10 plant grow. Super late in the season but they are all autos. We’re in SoCal so we have about 80-90 good days left for growing.
the plan was to start earlier but life got in the way. All plants are in 20 gallon pots. We are growing: 2 white widow, 2 gelato, 4 orange sherbet, 1 lsd and 1 Tropicana cookies. Seeds are from Herbies and fast buds. Soil is fox farm ocean forest mixed with our own compost.
For bugs I’m using captain jacks dead bug, have had good experience with it in the past 2 grows I’ve done.
We picked strains that are good for beginners (my third grow, his first) and that are supposed to handle higher temps. Some are freebies though so we’ll see.
My questions are how out of our minds are we to start this late? Temps are in the 70s and 80s through late november with some 90+ days. I’ve never done lst but was thinking I might try it on one or two plants.
feel free to roast me, I’m expecting a steep learning curve with this grow.
thanks all

All these autos were in the soil between Aug 23 and Sept. 11. Shitty pics but everything is looking solid. 9 plants, Apple Strudel, Orange Sherbet, Gelato x2, Trop Cookies from fast buds.White Widow x3 and LSD from Barney’s. Had some issues germinating the OS but Fast Buds replaced them. One Apple strudel didn’t take well after germination.
Did some simple lst on a few plants just to see how it goes.
One of the pic shows some leaf damage. I found the same leaf damage in a lower branch of the same plant. Removed them both. I’m unsure but it makes me think thrips.
Soil is a mix of FFHF, FFOF and some mulch. Plants are being fed worm castings top dress every 2-3 weeks. Started adding seaweed extract at preflower every other week. Banana tea 1-2x a week.
My buddy and I had some miscommunication at the start of the grow about whether or not we’ll use organic pesticides. Spinosad was decided on but then ditched after looking more into it.
Earliest harvest should be around Nov 10 for the Gelato and Thanksgiving for the rest.
the lsd was a slow starter, went in on Aug 18 and on week 6 started growing like crazy. It’s now the tallest (no lst) at just about 3 ft.
One if the widows was planted on Sept 11 and is just about the height of the lsd.
During veg plants were watered daily with about 1/4gallon. At the first sign of pistils we started watering about 3/4 gallon every other day letting them get a deeper soak. Temps have been up to 100f during the days and down to high 50s at night but the average has been mid 80s in the day and mid 60s at night.
If anyone can give some insight on that damaged leaf or any other input I’d appreciate it.
Thanks all
