I think some of the leaves still look like the plant is viable not totally dead. If cared for properly now, it might live but the photo isn’t that great. If he carries on with no drainage then I don’t see how he can hope for improvement.
If by “going crispy” he means dead and desiccated, that does not sound optimistic.
