Hello everyone this is going to be my first grow, and I am going to try and grow 4 TGA strains deep purple by Subcool
and I want to apologize ahead to you mister Subcool in case I do a crappy job growing the TGA strain.
I will also have 2 unknown Seeds from bags over the years with a sugar pea, hot pepper and a tomatillo plus 2 of my bonsai plants I want to keep alive. I have a small start in the Introduce your self section. But from now on I will do the updates here. I was lucky enough to be picked by CLW for their GFP. I will grow in a 3 x 3 x 6.5 by grow den that Came in was blown away by the quality

wk23.jpg
to figure out my cfm its 3x3x6.5= 58.5 right? then I divide by 5 equals 11.7? seems a small number but if doing that right I wont need much for ventilation for my grow set up with one of those 4'' inline booster fans with a carbon filter work? that's the combo I have in my head.
wk22.jpg
Im going to go to home depo tomorrow to see what's in stock, I've been checking out there online stock.

The light unit itself is schedule to be here Thursday
I am going to go with a soil grow because that's all I've used in the past for now I still stick to what I know.
I have one of the 2 bag seeds sprouted already 4 days after being planted which was fast for me
still waiting on the TGA
wk21.jpg

I need your advice will a suncourt 4'' in-line fan between 40-80 cfm with a 4'' carbon filter 22-45 work for my grow tent 3x3x6.5
I feel like its a small number and I feels like im doing the math wrong??
Thanks to anyone up and awake

was able to get half of my ventilation system up the store was outta stock of the carbon filter and the fan I needed but they should get here sometime next week
at the moment i have my exhaust vent and a mock up of the duct into my grow tent without the filter
outside vent.jpg

inside vent.jpg

Im going to have the carbon filter on the inside and the place the fan somewhere on the outside.
grow vent.jpg
The LED light hasn't arrived yet
but so far I only have 2 canni ladies... but still no veggies to sprout I usually try germinating 6-9 of each at a time but with this small area
I only picked one of each. I have a feeling I might have to re-pick and re-germinate seeds but thats ok with me.
Something to do during fall and the winter I dont like these seasons too much. A great way to working out the hick-ups this setup might give me to dial it in.

BS #00 is growing fast I ordered some 7 gal. grow bags as well

Still waiting on my light unit to get here. Waited too long on the fan and filter ran out now waiting on that
still waiting on the rest of the girls to sprout...:?:

hey i'd advise against trying to use a duct booster to pull through a carbon filter, just not enough CFM with those little guys...

i'd recommend an in-line "vortex" type fan...
here is a budget model iPower 4" on eBay for $58
http://www.ebay.com/itm/160875914720?hlp=false&var=

Here is one from HTG. I have this same brand but in the 6"
http://www.htgsupply.com/Product-GrowBright- 4in-High-Velocity-Inline-Fan

also get a variable speed controller so you can have better control over temp and noise, $20
http://www.htgsupply.com/Product-Blower---Fan-Speed-Control

consider these numbers:
duct booster (~80 CFM)
4" inline (~170 CFM)
6" inline (~424 CFM)

might wanna just go with the 6"... you have less headaches when you over build your ventilation and dial it back to what works best

EDIT: since you are going with LED you'll be fine with the 4" but i would still go with a vortex fan because when you add a carbon filter it cuts your CFM rating by like 30% maybe more. plus any bends in the ductwork.

See when I went to 2 different grow shops store #1 told me to go with an 8'' and the other store which i went 2 different times in the same day with 2 different ppl store #2 told me the 4'' with a really good speed controller or im going to be fighting my tent flexing in and out.
person # 2 at store #2 made me start thinking odor control is not a big issue but I would love to have it under control so as the season goes on I'll closely monitor odor. With the fan on the way at least I'll get good ventilation for exhaust

I have bookedmarked your links puppetstring for the fans those are good deals thanks much.

Now my light came in 30 mins before I had to head out for work took me all of my morning to get the other vent hole cut out for my passive intake
I got my temperature and humidity display up
with the fan Im thinking of strapping it somewhere midway on the poles somewhere.

BS#0 sprouted
I'd like for just one more TGA to pop out but only time will tell

temp and hum.jpg
I was done with the set-up at 4pm and this was 9pm temps and hum. the real test will be October and on with the cold months

after misting.jpg
after I misted the girls and did a light watering

so far both bag seeds have sprouted and only 1 out of 4 of the TGA have popped out I hope one more of the TGA will sprout and I might blame myself
I don't normally germinate seeds in soil I start off in something else. but Ill give it another week before I decide if I want another seed or go for a clone

I have to re-pot one of my bonsai but I need to add a few drainage holes hopefully on my to do list on along with a better light hangers

what are good average temperatures and humidity to aim for?

The 3rd day with the light and I'm in love with it and woke up this morning to a nice surprise to see a jalapeno sprout
just a quick update with a few pictures and I checked the rest of the TGA did sprout but the outside seed cover did not come off and killed 2 of the seedlings and the 3rd has a little bruise I re-potted
I was bummed so I pick another 2 TGA but these are going to be Crazy Train, Lets see how long it takes for them to germinate and this time I placed in in those grow pellets but took them apart.

Took a little extra time to take a few pics of the girls
the jalapeno was yellow this morning and late afternoon turning a light green

Great stuff.

You might want to make a seed prepper. I have not done this
yet myself, but it amounts to a matchbox lined with sandpaper.

One shakes a seed in the box for a few seconds before starting
to germinate it. This scores the seed coat and helps the bean
get out.

Good luck,

JD

I'm going to try that thanks for the idea JD yeah was crush to find out they had sprout but were stuck in their seed shell

LOL, I need to make one of these too.

I just got done popping a slew of beans, and for about 1/3 of them
I have had to help the shell off.

More often than not they will manage on their own, even after a struggle,
but when they fail and the tip starts to go necrotic it is often too late at
that point, and even if I remove the shell the tip continues to rot and the
sprout fails.

I have long tweezers and forceps from mycology. This helps, along with
a pair of magnifiers.

Onward and upward,

JD

So I went and made a seed prep box out of an old mint box with the inside lined with sandpaper forgot to take a picture of it but thanks to JavaDog for the idea. Been busy with work especially with it being NFL weekend =/ I bartend for aliving so anyhow I asked my brother to water my plants I think he forgot a few times because my jalapeno is looking alil sad but then again the weather here as been crazy waterfall rain cycles all day long day 4? 5? now. The night temperatures do drop a bit so many thats affect my hot pepper I know they love heat. I have an old seed heat pad i'm going to use. For now Ill do another quick update. I like the pictures to do the talking for me =)

I placed 2 Crazy Train to germinate and they did so I'm not doing to get any more cannabis plants unless one dies then Ill just get a clone

So when I was uploading this thats when I noticed I had forgotten to take pictures of my bougainvilleas and my jalapeno along with my seed prep box

I started to think about my fuchsia and how now its under the led light under veg stage and its blooming its going to go into shock for a bit hopefully it can handle or maybe im wrong and nothing happens.

Wow....purple sprouts!

It is good to get past the sprout stage.

Look up "damping off". Some will just fall over.

It usually seems like a too-damp soil to me, but
it is hard to be certain.

Hello Tar, nice setup you have going there. Question for ya on TGA seeds. I see there is one by me near Tacoma, do they only do wholesale? Or are you able to purchase just a few? When I hear wholesale I think large quantities.... I would like to get some seeds from them but not sure how to go about it. I have my card is that will help.

GL on your grow, will tag along!

PS I like that fuchsia, thought about trying my hand on growing orchids.

I was shocked when I came home, while I was at work my timer for my fan and exhaust fan decided to crap out on me. So I don't know how long they were off for but. When I went to check on the tent I could feel the heat before even opening it up. I had picked up a soil test kit too. My Sb #0 is showing some weird dark colors on the two big leafs and their a little rough to the touch. It doesn't seem normal to me. I ask an old classmate from college is advice and told me growing with seed bags the genetics is a huge question mark. And I got lucky on My Qrazy train strains their suppose to be good for the pacific northwest areas and now I'm looking for more like The Void. The night temperatures here really do drop and the humidity is going to be a challenge here soon.

Here the temperature and humidity soon after I opened up the grow tent
Wk4 temp & humidity.jpg

Never really used a test outside a classroom setting so I really didn't know what to look for

Out of all the cannabis plants the Qrazy Train strains are doing the best and were start 1 1/2 wks behind the rest.

For my SB#0 whats are your inputs on the dark spots? Light burn maybe?

Just made a quick check on the girls and another idea came to me as to the dark marks on SB #0 the cold temperatures at night the plant doesn't like it. Some of my outside mints have the same marks. I have a heat pad in the tent I put a few days ago. If cold temperatures are the case then it's going to die soon =( live and learn right

I stopped by my local grow shop and spend a good ahr or more in there talking to the shop manager. Currently I'm dealing with SB #0 discoloration. After a few more soil test for SB #0 its shows none to low levels of N-P-K. The current ocean forest soil Im using has been sitting in the shed for a good 6 months maybe just alil longer.

I then tested the soil
Wk 4 Ocean forest soil test.jpg
The Ph read 7 neutral

but the sprouts have been in the soil for 4 1/2 wks from seed till now the food supply must be low by now.
The shop manager took the time to walk me through some of her products after I explained my set up

After much needed re-fresher/thinking and overthinking like a newbie I left the shop with this
Dr.Earth Fish Meal.jpg

I'll be honest I under estimated the additive and supplemental part of an indoor grow I'm used to outdoor gardening. But I love learning new things =)

Some of the Plants waiting in line for the fish meal
Wk4 add line up.jpg

After all the girls got topped dressed
Wk4 after additive group line up.jpg

I have a bit of reading to do not to mention a lot more refreshing too its been a while since I've done anything botany related outside a class
Like test ph and nutrient levels & adding nutrients

I'll be back in a few days to show if I did right or wrong with Dr.Earth
Another issue I'm facing now is heating its getting too cold for some strains in there.
But The Qrazy Trains are doing just great.

Just a quick update my next post will be with more detail But i just want to say the issue with SB # 0 seems to be under control I blame to cold night temperatures I went soil shopping I was gonna grab a bag of ocean forest and pot of gold by dr.earth but then I saw another soil by dr.earth and it had seaweed in it ( i've been waiting on my liquid seaweed)

HomeGrown POTting soil
Dr.Earth Soil.jpg

I will still go with a mix of ocean forest and dr.earth for the final flowering stage Ill give this new soil a test run. It says its for medical gardens

let's start with SB #0 and i really think I got lucky when I went nut shopping for my first time. Compare these pictures with lasts weeks to see the difference

I'm waiting on the other half of my nutrients to get here for now the fish meal had a huge impact on my plants plus the addition of the heater in the grow tent now with the fish meal I used half of the required measurements

Still doing my research on nutrients and trace elements along with compost tea plus LST & cropping ideas fighting one another in my head on when and how to start. Ill prbly end up doing each of the canni ladies in their own unique LST/cropping/Scrog set up with tomatoes cages. I am also still deciding when to start I'm giving myself till saturdayish I just transplanted the girls into new cups.
Like I said the next post will be more detail

I enjoyed some Qrazy Train this very evening.

It is a very tasty smoke. I enjoyed it so much that I landed on
about five other TGA breeds. I only got a couple of beans of most
of them. I will be happy to see what I get. (got lucky with the QT ;0)
I did get larger packs of Jacks Cleaner 2 (for a really good lemon) and
Jack the Ripper (because it is a classic).

Good luck,

JD
