Passive Intake

just bought a grow tent and temps have been higher then normal. so i got a intake system that comes through the top. my question is do i put my fan on the inside of my tent to bring in air, or on the outside to push it in. i have it on the inside connect to some venting tubes but my temps are still about the same, i was hopeing to ovoid the out take due to my tight closet space

Hot air rises... so you want your exhaust on top...

And you intake close to the bottom....

Unless it get's extremely cold in there during the winter.

Are you using a cool tube? Click on the link in my signature and check out mine. Very simple. Should reduce the temps inside your tent a little.

Hot air rises... cold air sinks...

Even if it is really cold.... the warmer -20 air will be on top of the colder -40 air....

Could you please elaborate...?

i think he means if its super cold outside the tent you don't want to pull in super cold air to hit your plants... you would then want to pull the hot air from your light down over your plants then out.

but i agree.. intake near the bottom. exhaust out the top.

yea intake on bottom exhaust at top on opposite side so it pulls air up and accross your plants fan on top blowing out

Only thing I could come up with is that cold will move towards warm. So it could cause a raising current. But thats more a concept then real world on a grow tent.

Technically speaking warmer air is displaced by cooler air. In thermo dynamics the concept of air moving on its own is not applicable....

Your fan should be on top pulling air from the tent and exhausting it through a filter/scrubber.

If you are combating cold temps, you can draw from the top, though the most likely reason to vent will be to bring in fresh co2. Since co2 is heavier than air, it is still best to intake from low.

You will need to install a cooling thermostat on your fan (not a regular wall tstat) or warm your intake air to properly control your temperature if this is an issue.
