all I can say is we're stoners not robots, there will never be a day alll stoners talk like that online.... never.

my idea actually implements what stoners do well, defend eachother.

Yes, if we all followed the rules then this thread, poll and everything wouldn't be happening. I feel like, and correct me if I am wrong, you think we are trying to change the rules so that we can bash each other more freely, which isn't what we are going for. We are trying to bring up the issue of trolls coming on here to stir things up and cause trouble. I haven't ben on RIU too long so I am not going to act like a long time member, but from the sounds of it RIU was once a pretty rule-following fun place to post until younger kids and trolls decided to take advantage of the site. I am sure that before all of this troll and bashing debate there was still name calling and whatever, but at least the majority of the members were happy and coming back, now we are losing long time members that attracated me to stick with RIU in the first place.

Yeah people can make fun of each other if both parties realize it isn't a personal attack but rather just an act of frustration.

Like I said, correct me if I am wrong, I don't want to mis-interpret your tone or put words in your mouth.
 
Punctutaion makes a huge difference too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL! As does grammar. If *one* can't speak or type, how do *they* REALLY expect to be taken seriously?

Replcace *you* and see how that sounds. See what i mean?

i totally understand AND wholeheartedly believe it. i just believe that proper rules of debate, BEING POLITE(doesn't take a robot), and at least the lack of cursing would help. When one is trolling, they don't know HOW to respond to my long, proper, logical, POLITE, NON-ACCUSATORY post. And they usually go away or change their tone. There is amazing power to be had in being able to open someone's eye's to their own shortcomings without ever attacking them to do so.

I know what you mean but it will not work for everyone on this site and this will not stop trolls...

we need a solution that works for the majority of the members here, and changing this insult rule will work to stop the majority of trolls with the majority of members.
 
I believe the intent IS to make bashing easier.... in fact, the petition starter stated so.... he would like to be able to tell others to fuck off freely... in fact, he already has several times today, knowing it is an infraction of the posted rules. I'm not debating the rules... in fact, everyone here agreed to them when they joined. they continue to agree every time they log in to the site... if they wish to break the rules, they'll suffer consequences, like everyone else. If it weren't for insults and personal attacks, this site would be the site everyone remembers. the only reason in stepped up attacks is the fact that FDD has been taking vacation time and we have no active mods apparently. If we did have active moderators, most of the crap wouldn't even be getting posted...

The last forum I was on didn't allow me to say "fuck" as freely as I can here, as long as I can freely say "fuck" and not direct it at a forum member, I'm good :leaf:

Just to go with that too, in a thread a couple weeks ago (about the kid wanting to grow in his mom's house) I had a flamer try bashing me by telling me I do nothing for marijuana legalization and that I am just a punk kid. I responded to him by calmly telling him how I am involved in NORML here, have voted and tried raising more awareness. I did not bash him or even curse back at him but rather just explained to him how I am involved and then asked him how he was involved in the movement...havent heard anything from him since. A lot of trolls just want the reaction out of people, which is why I respond in a more civil way rather than bashing them, just gives more fuel for the fire.

That's just how I go about it though, I just want to see the trolls monitored and dealt with in a better way so we don't lost more valuable and long time members.

When I'm blazed out of my mind, punctuation isn't the first thing on my mind. I just let the auto correct clean up after me, if it misses (lol) a word no worries ill just let it slide. Explaining things stoned can come out the wrong way too.

As for the cursing Jesus titty fucking Christ I picked it up from my parents and its the way I talk.

I'm not trying to troll you just giving my opinion/answer lol.
 
So i'm not a mod here or a Neighborhood Watch where i live. Not officially. But around my town, if i see something i can't let slide on by, i POLITELY ask how things are going and if they look like trouble, prepare to switch gears fast. But i always give them the chance to control the tone of the situation in the beginning. THEIR decision dictated whether they continue on their way or i tell them "GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE MOTHERFUCKER OR I'LL BEAT YOU'RE ASS!" along with a smack upside the head to encourage their departure.

Notice the appropriate use of cursing in this post. DIRECTED AT NOBODY IN THIS THREAD, but rather used to demonsatrate a point?

but because there is no rule against someone posting in someone elses thread if that person doesn't like it, I should retain the right to defend myself against your idiotic presumptions.

I don't want more bashing, wtf. you gotta realize stifling emotion is not the answer... insults are a part of life, and the internet, it is personal attacks that are malicious that should NOT be tolerated.

So you want to change the rules so you can call someone you percieve or you and your buddies percieve as a troll, to fuck off.

You are of course aware that this is what the troll wants., i doubt he cares about seeing you banned, he just wants to antagonise you and get you angry to the point of non-coherence. Troll win..

It doesn't take someone of much intelligence to think troll, and ignore him, or say hit the report button, but i guess that's snitching or something, much more mature and responsible to just start swearing at him. Personally i'd rather take the mature approach, if all you wish to do is fuill up the forums with posts telling people to fuck off, you're no better than the trolls.

what we're doing now is NOT working.... defending eachother against trolls will. simple. they are exploiting the insult rule so they can get people to blow up and get banned...

SIMPLE.

why do you think it's alright that if I blow up on a troll I'm banned and the troll isn't? I don't care how logically you can make that sound that doesn't sound right.

in real life if someone taunts you and you punch them, the person who taunted gets in trouble too, doesn't make the person who punched that guy all good, but he doesn't get in as much trouble as he would if he just walked up and punched a guy for no reason.

I think he is just trying to point out how you are quick to tell someone to fuck off or call them a tool and all that jazz. I think that people should be able to curse if they want, I'll say whatever word I want, but I will also make sure to try not offending someone with it. Sure, if you were to tell me to fuck off it wouldn't bug me, but there are some people here that take stuff like that too hard and don't realize they don't have to take it to heart. You know I am with you when it comes to the petition and getting rid of trolls, but I also think going around telling everyone that opposes you to fuck off isn't going to help our cause, you know what I mean?
