makes as much sense as banning cannabis... They are both plants that grow to naturally give certain effects. That's not the definition of a drug to me.

I agree. And why is cannabis and peyote schedule 1. Wtf!
Did you know meth is schedule 2...lol go figure....its because its FDA approved to treat obesity and ADHD under the brand name Desoxyn.

Thanks DEA/FDA. Next time I have the option to do either Meth or Weed I'll choose Meth cuz I'll get in more trouble for Weed according to the scheduled drug act.
( well thats not true, regardless of the law, if you have any experience with our fine legal system you know meth brings maximum penalties allowed and weed charges are almost alwase plead out with minimum penalties allowed. They only pursue maximum penalties for weed charges as leverage to get you to plea to a more serious offense, infact my state law excludes weed from sched 1 alltogether and has its own set of punishments/penalties which are far less severe)

In Canada they specifically left Peyote out but mescaline in, because people at the time used to order large amounts of the cactus from the south for rituals, now its available to all that look.

it is legal for people to take combinations of prescription drugs that get them far more inebriated that psychedelics.. all we are talking about is being tolerant of self impairment which we already are - you can drink a glass of wine and go drive across state lines.. you can even get raging drunk to the point you might die if you're not in public - so why not go in a less harmful direction?
after the weed thing has calmed down maybe it will be time to petition to remove other non-addictive, non-toxic drugs from the CSA.. psychedelics will become part of normal polite society i predict - many years from now..

Having been married to a Navajo woman, I can tell you that the best way to get shot is to go out looking for peyote. Many Native Americans use peyote in their ceremonies, but they have the knowledge and decency to cut the button off, and leave root in the ground. Not long ago, peyote was on the verge of extinction in Arizona due to people indiscriminately yanking plants. One button as big around as a half dollar takes upwards of 50 years to grow. Just like medical marijuana, if you want to do peyote legally join the Native American Church. I should warn you though that their ceremonies can be way intense to attend. Also, according to native tradition, there is nothing more damaging to your karma than selling or buying peyote, it has been cursed by medicine men in an attempt to slow the destructive tendencies of those out to make a buck.
