The full frame sensor is epic, the cameras we have are for use in videography so they get used to film cinema quality footage, the extra wide angle is a huge advantage for that. They really are brilliant at what they do, we have them on steady-cam harnesses aswell, really light to operate. I'm becoming interrested in astrophotography and I know Nikons are held with very high regard for that use. Nice cameras for sure.

To get pics like these I had to have the apperture up a fair bit and a strong lightsource shinning on the buds. If you have apperture really low then only a tiny part of the bud will be in focus. I had it turned up alot and still blurs everywhere. When you are zoomed in and taking a pic at its minimun focal range its very hard to keep the camera still when you press the button so I had to have a decent shutter speed aswell. They were taken by hand or by resting on a chair. To compensate for the high shutter speed and apperture I put the ISO rating up past 1250, lightning the image but increasing 'noise' and adding a bit of grain and decreasing fine detail. The pics have not been altered in photo-editing, apart from cropping.

I invite you to post some of your nicest snaps in terms of artisic merrit as opposed to impressiveness of the grow. Its not to say pics of awesome grows arent fun to look at.

I'll get the ball rolling - took this one with the white balance way off by accident and it came out really cool. It was set to tungsten light and this was taken in natural light. (Canon 5D)

I bought the cannon digital slr yesturday and the macro lense will come today about 3, with tripod i got about 800 in it, battery is charged and i will be posting my babies later. With me luck
 
I'm excited for you, the first time I got my hands on an SLR I had so much fun. Take hundreds of pictures at first and dig out the good ones - and over time you will have to take less and less. The four things you need to get to grips with to use an SLR are: ISO rating, white balance, apperture and shutter speed.

Good thing you got a macro lense - it will serve you very well for snappin your girls! Remember to get a strong lightsource on the macro stuff so you can be zoomed in to the fullest (which darkens the image) and have the apperture up nice and high to capture lots of detail (which also will darken your image).

They have great tech support so when I get the lense today I will set up and call them . As far as light goes these first ones are going to be with the hps light so going to have a lot of reds in them. Without the macro lense I can push the 10x button and see all the trichs but it does not snap that photo, when I called they said buy this lense and it will be fine so I did
 
I like where the OP was originally headed--concerning the more artistic approach to photographing cannabis.
I think it becomes a bit tricky to take a shot that entices the artistic mind. It seems that any photo with decent lighting can arouse a sense of excitement just because we all love this naturally beautiful plant. The glistening trichs and the bulk of flowers is hard to deny attraction. But I seldom see pictures of cannabis that I would say had an artistic leaning.

It seems we are left with manipulating the environment, either pre or post. We can change backgrounds, change lighting filters, zoom in on a visually pleasing arrangement of leaves, buds, and stems, etc. These are the images I'd like to see more of. I always thought Subcool/TGA had an artistic eye for his plant photographs. He likes to use different colored backgrounds, and also seems to have a knack for choosing the perfect vantage point and lighting. Just search his strains to see what I mean. I recently acquired a Canon T3i body, but have not had the funds to get a decent macro lens or ring light.

What other manipulations can one perform to take the photograph into the artistic realm?
