Just put them in a wet paper towel in between two plates. Put them in a dark space and check back about 2-3 days later. As for the lights, since you are growing from seed, I would keep it about a 2 to 2 1/2 feet above the containers. Once they get bigger, about 16-18 inches.

I usually throw them in water, I've had seeds that didn't wanna germinate in wet papertowel even in dark with added heat, tossed them in water and a few days later they germinated. Also when you put them in water, they absorb some and the shell cracks easier, so you can try water then put in papertowel. Also as mentioned above, keep HID lights a bit farther at first like 2'ft high or use CFLs to start, then I keep my light as close as possible as long as I don't get the top leafs hot( over 80-82).

Agree with just planting, if they have or haven't germ'd, either way. As mentioned this method has worked really well for Mother Nature for eons  Personally, I'd save the 600 watt bad boy for awhile. Use a CFL or low wattage t5, for a week or so, once they break the surface. That will let you keep the light low enough so they don't go stretch crazy, yet not risk crisping those little suckahs like Fritos :eyesmoke: At that age a little light goes a long way.

Good luck with this.

Use a tweezers, and plant your germinated seed flush with the top of the soil, Root down. You want to see the top of the seed coat.
You don't need to sow the seed deeper. It's all ready germinated. Your just placing the seed in the place where it would have grown all ready.
Make sure to water your soil (Moist, not wet) before you plant your germinated seed.
You want moist soil never wet or dry. use your pinky finger to test the soil a little below the surface. see if it's moist.
Some times people see dry soil on top, and water when they don't need to. allways check below the surface to see if it's moist.
You don't need to put anything over your pot to keep moisture in.

How far from the seedling do you keep the cfl for a week or so? When is it good to kick in all your lights? 2 weeks? I know some of it might be strain dependent, but in general? Also, do you recommend a heat mat to get them going in temps of 60 or so?

With a CFL or a T5 you can have the bulb 6 inches or lower, since they run so cool. But if you have multiple seeds/seedlings, you're going to need to share light. So don't get the light(s) so low that they don't cover the area you needed covered. I use a dome, so I have to settle for like 8 inches away (right down the middle of the tray) from the T5 and they sometimes still get too much stretch. I would like to move it even lower, if I could.

If it's a warm time of year, like 65-85 inside as it is now. Not much need for a heating pad. If it's cooler, it couldn't hurt as long as you use it with a thermostat (extra $30 or so). This will make sure you don't cook the seeds and that you get the consistent temp you're after. If using a dome, keep the vents cracked a bit or it'll be a jungle (as in too fukin wet) under the dome.

Hope this helps,

No body here has tried throwing seeds in water??? It just speed thing up plus mother nature might throw a 100 seeds in dirt and 85 sprout, u don't usually have that availability when growing indoors with $5 seeds, just saying.

"Throwing them in water" is probably the least safest because it's so easy for them to drown...

They need moister.. Not a fuckin river Lol

I have grown for many years and have never changed my methods. I just chuck seed into Mother Earth or pot and have never failed, sure it may take 5 days to brake soil but I've never planted a seed that never sprouted this way.

bg your saying...You have 100% germination? Never had a bad seed?

I'm going to try the soak w/H 2 O the weak hydrogen peroxide solutions. When I start my next grow which will be in the next couple days. I want my high dollar seeds to germinate! I'll try everything/anything to get to 100% in my seeds and my clones!!

This is the best place to research your growing options!

Lets all have a healthy and happy grow with great results/Harvest! Also share the wisdom, experience and help each other to grow the best possible meds we can grow !

Yup, I just place the seed in a small hole about 1/4 inch in the ProMix...water gently...three to five days later it breaks thru the surface.

I only use paper towel method on seeds I think may not be viable.

Simpler is better...IMO.:joint:

Your right. If you have seed bank seeds. you shouldn't need to soak them in water.
The whole soaking your seeds was something taken from old school methods of separating good seeds from bad seeds.
The good seeds will sink, the bad seeds will float.
From what I've read, and my personal experience your seed bank seeds will have almost a 100% germination rate.
