The only time you open the door to the police is if they yell, "XXX Agency, search warrant" or something exactly along those lines. You want to hear the word WARRANT.

When that is uttered holler hang on, let me open the door. If you do not get a response allow them to finish the breach or you could be injured.

If they answer then step outside, pull the door COMPLETELY closed and ask to see the warrant. They will hand it to you or hold it for you to see. Keep your hands at your chest and palms towards them. They are MORE scared than you are so no fast moves, talk clearly and slowly.

If they breached as soon as they calm down and get you where they are comfortable ask to see the warrant and read it. Make sure the ADDRESS, Name and scope are all listed and appear correct (ie you are the right house, right name etc...). But do not argue. Say nothing and always keep a copy of your attorney's business card on the refrigerator or other obviously accessible place.

I once read online once a guy was arrested for trying to call 611 (customer support) and instead he kept dialing 911, after 22 calls to 911 in 1 hour they sent a officer to the guys home and they told him he had to let them in to make sure everything was ok.

He ended up letting them in and he was exposed as he had 18 plants....He was nabbed, so the moral of the story is---if your not under arrest you do not allow anyone to enter your home. LEARN YOUR RIGHTS, PROTECT YOUR SELF, AND most importantly EDUCATE YOUR SELF!

Yes, also if you look at a warrant make sure it is signed by a judge and not blank! The cops like to be corrupt little dickheads.

I don't know what tv show you saw this on but that don't happen in real life. They don't have to show you shit. Their pissy little warrant signed by some justice of the peace is their license to bust into the designated house. If you even try to close the door you are in for a world of shit. You might as well just open the door and see what they want and act like a law abiding citizen. If they don't have a warrant they will just talk to you while they are sneaking peaks in your house and sniffing and sniffing. If they have a warrant they are coming in period.

You never did tell us why they were there.

Well if the cops are acting that suspicious and sneaking peaks that means they have no evidence but they were tipped off by someone. You should never open the door for a lying mischievous cop. The only thing separating you from a search is the cop claiming he smells something even if there isn't any smell. Just leave the door shut and wait for them to leave.

Why did they come to your house? Does someone at the residence a bench warrant or were you being loud or were they serving you papers? If you need to open the door for police step out onto the porch and close the front door behind you to talk to them. Step out. Never invite them in.

I must disagree. In 2010, I got a knock (actually they pounded) on the door, they identified themselves, but before I let them in I demanded to see the search warrant. They had one. It took several hours, and several agencies (city & county cops, DEA) to search, and they tore apart my house and siezed $6100, which I got back two years later, after a class action lawsuit with the city.
