Quick question about portable air conditioner, what is btu? And are portable ac units stand alone or do you have to hook them up to a window or something? Rep for anyone that's helpful. Thanks guys.
Thanks for explaining it. Will it work if I hook it up to the exhaust in my tent or does it have to go outside?all portables need to vent the heat they remove from the room there in to either outside or into another room. all ac units move heat from one spot to another, they need a spot to put the heat. thats why window units are in the window and the condenser for your central air is outside your house. it is also why the condenser for you cars ac is in front of your radiator. i am a certfied auto ac repair guy. google how ac works and you will learn what im telling you
did you buy the ac unit yet? i ask because there are 2 kinds of portables duel and single hose. you want duel, if you have single with some time i can tell you how to jerry rig it to a duel. the heat generated by ac needs to be vented out of living space either into attic or out a window or your ac will be working in circles. the best way is get a duel hose unit. put the unit in with plants or atleast in the room that the tent is in. then you run the intake vent from outside living space to ac, then run the exhaust vent right back outside living space. thats how you cool the condencer. any variation of this will result in poor ac performance and higher electric bill. this is all exsplained by the portable ac companies in fact 1 of my units came with a video on how and why. to clairify all ac units have 2 sides the side in the living space on a side that needs to be outside. google how duel hose ac works there are tons to readThanks for explaining it. yep. I think what he meant was, it takes roughly 3000BTU's to cool a 1000 watt bulb, but honestly I don't know how that math works. The British Thermal Unit is the (small) amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of a pound of water by 1 deg F. It is not equivalent to a watt or kilowatt, which are measures of power - a different quantity.
In the old days your gas bill was measured in Therms, which is 100,000 btu.
thats correct, to many thing to considerYou can not determine the size of an a/c needed by using a watt per BTU formula there are several other variables that need to be considered. Are the lights air cooled? What are the outside temeperatures? How well is the space insulated?
