From Wikipedia article on the common milkweed https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asclepias_syriaca:

"Concerns about milkweed bitterness and toxicity can be traced back to Euell Gibbons, author of Stalking the Wild Asparagus (1962). It is theorized that Gibbons inadvertently prepared dogbane (Apocynum cannabinum), a poisonous look-alike instead. He devised a method to remove the bitterness and toxicity by plunging the young shoots into boiling water (not cold) and cooking for one minute, repeating the procedure at least three times to make the plant safe to eat. Gibbons' method was copied from book to book, dominating edible plants literature for forty years. Most modern foragers consider the bitterness/toxicity issue a myth. The plants have no bitterness when tasted raw, and can be cooked like asparagus, with no special processing.[SUP][1]"[/SUP]

Poor milkweed has gotten a bum rap :)

I bought a lot of foraging books and have found quite a lot of edible plants on our property. Even Bull Thistle is edible (but it has to be carefully peeled, lol). I figure if the grid goes down, foraging will be a good source of food. I'm not much for vegetable gardening but we planted a fruit orchard. Not many annual plants I'm willing to grow besides my gals.

hahah im not sure if its poop man only one spot.. also another question, if i ride my motorcycle or quad around my plants, like in my back field say, will the exhaust fumes hurt that plant at all? 2 stroke if that helps the plants are probs 20 feet away from where i ride.

hahahah hootville! this is the forecast for the next 14 days!http://www.theweathernetwork.com/fourteenday/cabc0221 what do you say to that!
Nice weather dood - when does it start getting cold cos you don't want to loose buds to mold.

Cut the freaking leaf off just in case it's elephant lava - you don't want that I can tell ya - have you ever seen a baby elephant? It would crush your baby once hatched.

Here's one that hatched on some normal grass.
