They have one week left, and most reports say they are no closer than when they started. How's it end?
I don't think they will succeed, or if they do it will be for the minimum 1.2T. And that will only happen if the dems cave again and do a pkg with only spending cuts.
I don't think they'll do that, so the commission will fail. Automatic cuts go in. Big deal. They don't take effect until 2013, plenty of time for them to "fix" it after the 2012 elections.
GOP, in their mind, have no incentive to come up with anything. If they compromised on something that improves the economy, it makes Obama look good and we can't have that. But if they fail and the economy gets worse and worse, they figure people will blame Obama and they get the WH.
Not only is that ethically and morally wrong, it is a miscalculation.
