maybe it's not such a bad idea.
a 'real' job like yours is what stopped me from continuing to be an asshole kid.(getting in trouble and what not.)

I hear ya metaltooths,,,,I just repaired a 20 year olds life to the point where his own parents are willing to help him out again,,,,,but he is only 14,,and it's a shit job,,I've been doing it since I was young and have had 2 good falls causing crushed heels and fractured ankles,,an L4-5 disc surgery from repetitive use,,and a miniscal knee surgery,,all from roofing,,next I'm gonna see a pshych to find out why I still do it

the happiest people are the one's that work the hardest!
and with your dad! i've worked hard outside with my family since i could walk, and now that i'm grown wouldn't change it for the world, AND give it to my sons the same way

IMO the most important thing is to make him realize everyone fucks up in life, BUT BEING A LIAR IS THE WORST, own up to what you've done and the truth will help liberate you from making poor decisions, the lie hides the fact

Glad to see you're teachin him the right thing. Maybe once he bets a job you should make him walk with you up to the people's house, apologize, and pay for anything he broke or stole.

I thought of that yesterday,,he still has stolen goods which we are turning over to the cops,,but I thought,,what if we went to the house he stole it from and gave it back,,,,he's already being charged,,,but then I thought,,if it was my house ,,I wouldn't want that person on or near my property,,,,,they have been violated in a major way and may not take to well to him and I at there door

confused
he and his brother get me and my wife's (not there mother) attention,,I know a few weeks back he was asking if he could work with me this summer or on the weekend,,,and I told him roofing was no place for a 14 year old,,and that he should apply at Mickey Dee's or Tim Hortons or something

sorry to hear about the troubles bro.... From personal experience, I would say to just be there for him as a father. and now that would entail keeping him under your watchful eye and having his privileges/possessions (that you bought) stripped from him.... He now has to EARN your trust, its not given.....

and I would put his ass on the roof bro.... he needs to experience dad's life... real life, and how people really get things they want.... also, you can watch him more that way; you send him off to work at a restaurant, he'll be spending his paycheck on drugs before he comes home....

just my opinion.... I've been in his shoes before, not too long ago really.... and everyday I look at my two boys, I hope and pray I never have to see them be idiots.

I wouldn't be so hard on yourself bro..

You gave him love, and support, and luxuries and a roof over his head..

Its time for him to face reality, and be responsible.

You cant do everything for him.

Maybe detention will wake him up.

It will be alright buddy.. Be strong and dont blame yourself for any of this.
