So this is my second grow, and I want to create a proper enclosure as to avoid light shock again, and we have pets so that can be an issue. I'm trying to create a roughly 5x6 space or so to grow 5 autoflowers and start 2 regular fems under a 400 watt hps. i've got pics so you can see what i'm working with.. i don't really plan on leaving that boxspring but i was just seeing what i could do with that corner, seeing as that's a definite fire threat lol. I want to start growing asap, ive got everything i need, just need to get this sorted out!

on a side note, what all does a tent require to set up? ventilation fans, etc.?

get the tent... i did...easy to put together and take apart...they come small to huuuuge..lol jus my opinon

screw tents...they are flimsy and overpriced. What you need to do is build a "curtain wall" This refers to a wall that is not structural but just acts as a barrier. You could use rope, chains to hang a light frame covered in black plastic outside/ mylar inside. Use light connections such as velcro for doors. Think about a plastic wall hung and weighted at the bottom...2x4 cut to size possibly. You dont need heavy insulation or structurally sound walls because you can hang everything of substantial weight. ie fans, lights, carbon filters. All you want to do is create a micro environment that is easier to regulate. Im an arch/engineer so building the grow room is my fav part! ...oh...and harvest time

I'm thinking you don't know too much about construction so I would go with a tent. It'll be cleaner, insulated, light proof and air proof. It'll give you a really good start. I prefer a box and enjoy building it but in your situation, a tent would be smarter. I wouldn't go with a curtain or something like that because you'll have a hard time keeping it cool inside because it's not insulated. Besides, Tents come in so many sizes that you're almost guaranteed to find something that meets your needs and when it's closed up, it doesn't really look like something that shouldn't be there.

OZUT haz some great advice and it is your only option since you're not good with construction. Better read some threads on ventilation because with that light you are going to need some air moving through that tent to keep the temperature adjusted correctly. Good luck and let us know how you made out....

for the amount of money youll spend on a tent you can build 2 more walls ,2x4's,insulation,sheetrock and still have money left over for other growing needs.tents are a rip off and constructing two walls is the simplest thing ever. You will be more satisfied with a built enclosure versus a tent which alotr of times wont hold up the carbon filter let alone a light and fan too

this is all true. BUT. Like everyone else said ... if you're not mechanically inclined get the tent. I have a tent for that reason. ALSO. you can control a tent environment a bit more than a poorly constructed grow room...
If you have a friend who can help you build it to spec than you're good.... but i would go with a tent....
...I have several closets in my home that are more than suitable enough to grow in, but the tent keeps everything contained IMO. no need to build holes in your walls or if you rent ...neighbors wouldn't be wondering why your building additions on to your apt.
But if i could do it ... i would've built my own if i had enough skill and knowledge of construction.

If you have no construction skills, that simple box is not going to be that simple. If you're worried about hanging a filter in a tent, I would really worry about hanging it in a poorly constructed box. Besides, he's going to have a really hard time making it air tight and dialing in his room. Another reason a tent is a good idea in this situation is he can move it around. As for the air filter, he can just stand it up in the corner.

Last year I built my own little grow room. It was 6x3x6 and I was proud of it. During harvest though i relized Im gonna need more space next time. So I tore it down and was comming up witha new design and happend to be on ebay and seen a nice 4x8x7 tent of comparible features and quality of the secret jardens for hundreds less. I think I spent $229 on it and so far I love it. Its a put it up and start growing thing. You dont have to mess with putting up mylar or cutting vent holes or nothing and cleaning is easy. With as much as you might spend on lumber, nails,mylar...ect. you might save on a tent. But If I had the space for a real grow room like 15x15 or so i would much rather build my own to my specific needs.

Mine is holding up a hell of a lot of weight in lights, fans, filters and other stuff and have not had any problems due to the tent. I did have a couple of those light holder yo yo peices of shit snap on me and broke a couple of the glass slides on my 600watters. I was so pissed. I found some new kind of light adjuster thing that looks like a small pully and they hold 5 times the weight and are a hell of alot cheaper and better quality than the peice of shit yo yo light adjusters. Soryy for going off topic but i hate faulty equipment that end up costing me money and dont want the same thing to happen to anyone else.

Tents are way better they are easy to dismantle if need be for quick storage... I use tents and get just as good of harvest as grow rooms that cost way more. Figure this cost of lumber, cost of sheetrock, lights, ventilation, odor control, tools screws, plus its permanent. A tent will cost around 200 bucks for a 52"x52"x72" tent and is portable easily washable and very easy to maintain. You will have more than that just in building materials and flat white paint.

http://www.htgsupply.com/....check out his website it everything you will need to buy but look at the pictures of the complete kits for ideas you may not have the money all upfront so you could piece it out as needed. A 6" high velocity inline fan and carbon filter kits will be all you need for ventilation, odor control, and air circulation if you go with a tent.
