besides getting to fuck with people without tainting their main screen name, i suspect they use them to make it appear as if they have groupies. as in, "see? all these people agree with me. YOU'RE the idiot." that type of shit.
i suspect a lot of people who act like know-it-alls make fake names to ask noob questions so they don't look like an idiot asking from their "guru" screen name, and then they realize they are free to act like an asshole and not care if they get banned.
