Subbed +rep .Nice cab setup man . Your plants are looking good . I LST too check out my Journal .
THanks King. I checked your set up and YOU my freind deserve a pat on the back for that work !! +Rep to you ! At first until I read how you constructed it, It looked like a refridgerator upside down :) Hey can you tell me how many CFM than fan you have is? I am about to retro fit my intake and exhaust before I flower these girls and I am just trying to decide exactly how I want to change t. I have the design in my head but just trying to decide on a fan. I do have a 6", 250cfm boost fan that I was going to use. I was going to exhaust each chamber seperately straight out the top of the cabinet (which is INSIDE a closet) and into the attic. I was going to change intake to passive and was wondering if that will be enough to draw heat/smell out. Currently I have 2 x 80cfm PC fans for intake and the exact same for exhaust Exhaust currently runs DOWN into the crawl space under my house but to date it has been in-effective. Hasn't been a whole lot of concern to date as I have kept a handle on temps and have been leaving the doors open for fresh air. This Kush is smelly already and basically the motivation behind changing the exhaust is because it is going to get a WHOLE LOT smellier as soon as I flower.
Thanks in advance for any advice bro and thanks for stopping by. Check back soon for updates.
Peace

So here is what I have done to change the exhaust and intake into the cabinet. Also relocated it inside my closet. THe air flow is GREAT now and temps are at present 78 degrees. We will have to see what happens when the lights go of !!
Let me know what you think.
Peace

Nice job on that cabinet bro. Im impressed with your ingenuity!
Thanks Arch. it was a squeeze to get it in there but managed to do it AFTER I took the door casing off :) Going into 24hours of darkness tonight and the lights back on tomorrow night. Changed up the lighting for flowering. Now the lights will be as follows:
2 @ 43W - 2700K (above)
4 @ 23W - 2700K (above)
2 @ 23W - 2700K (1 on each side)
2 @ 23W - 6500K (1 on each side)
I am moving two plants into each chamber so 2 plants will be sharing over 13,000 lumens. Temps are at 77 with the lights on and I just hope it doesn't cool off to much when they go out. I am now venting into my attic and it is cold up there. I put a louver at the end of the fan so that when it goes off, the louvers will close and not allow any back draft (fingers crossed) !
Needless to say, I am anxious for these things to show me Sex. My wife has been putting all the positive energy out there and assures me they will all be girls :) Once again, fingers crossed.
Thanks for the comments and I will have some more pics tomorrow after the lights come back on.
Peace

SO..... I switched the lights off last night and it seems as though I STILL have some issues with temps.
Here is what I have going on inside the cabinet, inside the closet:
Intake - passive, 2 X 4" holes in each chamber directly above the cool air vent in photo below. Each hole is covered with a nylon (pests etc..)
Exhaust - 6" ducts going straight out the top of each chamber, coming together into 1 X 6" duct, up through the ceiling into the attic. The attic is basically the same temp as outside and right now it is below freezing (that is not really the issue I don't think). At the end of the duct (in the attic) is a 250CFM fan drawing air up and out.
Before the lights went out, temps were fine, sitting at around 77 - 78 with high of 80. After the lights went out (exhaust still running) the temps immediately dropped about 10 degrees. recorded a low of 65.
What I did: blocked the air from the cool air return (you can see the cardboard in the photo below blocking this air) so the intake (passive) was drawing from the room only. put a heater in front of the hole so the intake could draw warm air and this solved the problem. I DO NOT WANT TO LEAVE A HEATER RUNNING FOR 12 HOURS when the lights are off.
Any suggestions PLEASE? I plan on removing the cardboard when the light come back on so the cabinet can draw cool air from the return as it did before and the temps were fin.
Basically, the issue is when the lights are out...too cool.
I don't know, maybe there is no way other than to run the heater when the lights are out but I don't think I need to mention how much of a pain in the ass that will be having to block the hole, remove the cardboard when the lights come on etc...
Thanks in advance for ANY and ALL advice.
Peace

Do you have a problem with 65 degrees? I thought the general concensous was that 65-80 degrees where ok? With some obvious variance at times.

I am shooting for 75 degrees. I was under the impression that 65 would be too cool. Am I wrong?? Please let me know if I am cuz that would releive a whole lot of BS right now. I was positive that I have read on many occasions that 75 - 85 was optimum? I could have been high though :)
Thanks Pelt, I will be interested to know what everyone else suggests for optimum temps.

Actually I think you may be right. I've read a few different temps. Seemore Bud's book says 74-80 and says anything less than 65 is "asking for trouble" as he puts it. So maybe I spoke to soon?

I can say that my cab gets close to that at night, last time i checked it was about 66. I might do better if I paid more attention to that.

Well what i do know is that Too Hot and Too Cold adversely effect progress of the plant so my goal is to be as close to optimum as possible at all times. If I shut my exhaust fan off, temps don't drop so drastically or quickly but then the plant are getting NO fresh air for 12 hours and that too in my opinion is not good. I really don't want to run a heater blowing at that hole in the wall as my "Night" time is when I am not at home and I am paranoid about leaving a heater on while i'm not here not matter WHAT is says on the box about how safe it is ! You feel me? Temps when the lights on are groovy, just when they go out is my problem !!

I know what you mean, u do have yourself a minor dilemma. One I have thought of for my situation before as well.

I definitely wouldn't leave a space heater on when I'm not around it, and you are probably right about not wanting your plants to reach two extremes with regard to temperature, which is how mine are :(

An idea( I have contemplated), which is quite a bit of work though, would be to have two separate intakes. You could have an intake drawing from your cold attic, and another drawing from room temp air. You could have your ambient just running 24 hours, and put your COLD INTAKE on a timer with your lights, so it switches on WITH your lights.

I have no idea if this would work or not, but it's something I have contemplated doing and will probably get around to it eventually.

Funny you mention that pelt. I have had the exact same thought based on something a friend of mine does. It will not work for me in my setup (due to space and positioning restrictions) but he has done something almost the same but on a grander scale. He has temperature regulated vent caps that automatically open and close based on inside temps. They are wired to the digital thermometer and they do all the work for him. They open to let cool air in when too hot and vice versa. That is quite the elaborate set up I might ad.
Well I guess we will see what happens when I turn the lights back on tonight after the initial 24hr dark period. I have posted another thread in the "Indoor Growing" forum titled "The age old Temperature conundrum" Feel free to check it out, ad your comments and see if anyone has any "Proof" as to what is acceptable or not with temp fluctuations.
Thanks for the insight so far Pelt. Perhaps we will get to the bottom of this sooner or later.
Peace

And on the high side? Right now, my lights just came on and it's 82.4 degrees. I have the doors open and was fucking around changing lights etc.. so MY heat probably didn't help much. TOday I think the lowest it got was 67 with the lights out but that was with ABSOLUTELY no air movementt at all, all my fans, even exhaust was off. Whadda ya think about that ?
THanks for the help with all this Bro. I am so freaking paranoid, I just need to get right and relax :)
