yes you can...if your goal is to drown them. Seriously, If you don't know how to plant a seed, I would suggest you do some research before you grow anything. I don't mean to be rude, but this is the most basic and first step to grow anything and there is tons of info on the whole process if you just took the time to look. It's basically like asking - "I got seeds...now what do I do". This question has been answered probably a 1000 times or more on this site alone!

Personally I had all 3 of mine germinate from a glass of water, I left it in there for a little over 24 hours. Once the root was like half a cm I used a damp paper towel and then planted after another 24 hours.

If they can drown in over watered soil, they can drown in a cup of water. Hey, I've seen people jump out of a plane and live when the chute didn't open, so does that mean it's safe to jump out of a plane without a chute? Besides, if you're so damn smart, why ask the question?

If you've seen it done with 100% germ rate then why ask??? Paper towel method works best imo though.
