In regard to their virtual non existence in America the reason is it's not cost effective to make methaqualone clandestinely. The dose is big and the materials are costly and tough to get. The kind of stuff that even if you can synth it you save for headies and close friends.

I was under the impression that the raw materials were cheap and available. As for Bonzi's link, it discussed finished methaqualone. The precursors are essentially tankcar chemicals. cn

The article discusses how some DEA jerk successfully convinced legislatures around the world to ban or heavily regulate the manufacturing of methaqualone. Methaqualone is not the main ingredient in Quaaludes; methaqualone is Quaaludes. That is, Quaalude is just the market name for the generic compound methaqualone.
There must be some, probably not too complex, method to manufacture methaqualone on a small scale. A professional chemist with the proper equipment could probably accomplish it.

On the other hand.... I am sure you have seen my contention that good drugs are worth at least as much as a movie or a fine dinner. I would gladly pay $20 for a proper dose of methaquaalone, I suspect that even though the doses are larger (bout 400 mg) that one could make money at roughly that rate. I have heard of mdma pills going for as little as 5 dollars, that is 50 bucks a gram (at 100 mg per - fantasy I know but...). Figure 2.5 doses of methaquaalone cost, 50 bucks a gram.

Now I am not sure but I think I read something about this substance making one prone to seizures at rather low dosages.

I have run into three different people in the last 10 years who showed me an empty glass bottle with the roher 714 label on it. They saved the bottles - each of them looked at me whistfully. They are very very very rare. The last ones I ever saw were from Mexico and they came in foil strips, ten to a strip - 200 mg each - they were old and I got themalmost 20 years ago.

Apparently after 1980 or so, after authorities realized that Quaaludes were being terribly abused but before the DEA rescheduled them into the schedule 1 category, Colombian drug enterprises smuggled bootleg Quaaludes pills into the United States. However, after the DEA convinced large chemical companies in Germany and elsewhere to cease the manufacturing of methaqualone, this bootlegging pretty much stopped.
However, I do hear from time to time that methaqualone is available under various market names in some countries. For example, I have heard that methaqualone is used in South Africa and sold there in pill form mixed with another compound; I do not know what the market name is for this pill. I have also heard that methaqualone is available in Canada.
If you want some methaqualone, your best bet is to contact a chemical supplier; China is probably your best option for this. I have heard of Chinese chemical companies supplying compounds like testosterone, diazepam, and lorazepam. The drawback, of course, is that you run a legal risk during importation, and you have no idea what you're getting. Regulation is close to non-existent in China, especially among black market chem suppliers.
Maybe your best option is to attempt to synthesize the compound yourself. Of course, you need to know what the hell you're doing lest you blow yourself up or kill yourself otherwise. Where is Walter White when you need him?

one of the most interesting drugs I've had. there was a pile of 714's in front of me and my cousin, given to me by dad. over a couple months, they were gone. in the last 5 weeks we discovered we could take a third every morning and feel great forever, until the pile was gone.

They were re-manufactured so far as I know. We could tell the counterfits by aligning the score mark on one side, if the 714 on the other lined up (or didn't, I forget which), and the bevels were not crisp, they were likely bootlegs - some methaqualone, some valium or what have you.

I'd never consider drinking one of these, but there is absolutely no drug that comes close to the pleasure rush of a mandrax (luud) hit. About half a pill crushed in some paper with a table spoon, mixed into the top few mm of a bowl of weed. Gotta have the music blaring, it's kind of like a reboot, all your senses are overcome, like someone sequantialy swithces off all the circuit breakers in your brain and then reverses it, the music comes streaming in back with it. Very powerfull feeling but way too nice, and it leaves you quite lethargic and sedated afterwards (but fiending for more, but not as badly as say crack fiending). I would say it has a slighty larger window before addiction sets in than the aforementioned too.

I tried smoking them a few times, yes, you get a rush but smoking 400 or more mgs of a plastic tasting smoke didn't appeal to me. Mandrax has a complementary chemical in it - I fogot which, that makes them hit you even harder - eating one and a half of those is probably one of the most pleasurable sensations I have ever had, bar none.

My friends dad owned a pharmacy in the 70s we used to get quas by the sack full.
Supposedly 1 of the reasons they outlawed them was b/c all the DRs & pharmacist were getting strung out on them.
All the body shops knew when they were in town,lots of wrecks.
I loved em and didn't find them adictive,we had access to all we wanted for years.
Best feeling i ever had from any drug.
Damn i wish they still had these.
