Question about 400w HPS/MH grow light

I'm a first time grower. I plan on buying this grow light:

My question is would this light be good enough to use for growing 12 plants? The plants I plan to grow are 4 AK-48, 4 Master Kush and 4 White Rhino in Fox Farm soil. I would like to grow in my open basement. Would I be better off building a small grow room or could I grow in an open basement? Would this light be to hot to use in a small grow room if I were to build 1?

im using there 400 watt MH on 4 girls,i would say you would need more light bro,and yea it gets pretty warm

Your supposed to flower with HPS

I've flowered with a 400w MH, it certainly works.. but I'd never choose it over HPS if I had a choice, you'll get far better yields with an HPS.

ya i got the 400W HPS, and i used it all the way up to the last two weeks of flowewering and then i went and picked up the MH conversion bulb to increase potency.....



oh yea and the most your probablly gonna even be able to flower under that much light is aprox. 6 given the full range is not much more that 3.5x3.5

I actually grew 12 plants (because that's what would fit in the closet that I constructed) under a 400w light, and it worked out fine. I bought some of those square pots so that they'd fit in a very tight 4x3 grid.

If you're going to grow that many plants in such a tight group, you're better off getting something with a single cola dominance like white berry. Anything too leggy like a sativa dominant strain will get way too unruly for quarters that close.

Its possible,but you will get less yeild.And I would suggest doing a ventilation system with the setup or at least get a portable a/c.

I made my 400w into a cool tube works great. Don't think I'll ever grow without a cooltube. I stoped using the mh. I use cfl's to veg and hps to flower. and I do wish I had got the 600w to start with. Yeild is about a qp on 4-7 plants. more is beter when it comes to light.
