Question on seed quality

Friends,

I’ve never had a problem with taking seeds that have sprouted roots into a solo cup for further development until now. I have two batches from the same supplier that simply will not prosper when I move them over, even though everything I’m doing is EXACTLY the same as before.

My question: if seeds germinate and develop a tap root, can they still be faulty such that this happens? Hearing mixed responses from others.

Again, EVERYTHING IS EXACTLY AS PRIOR! I’ve made no changes in technique, temp, soil, water, humidity and so on, and this never happened before where I had successfully raised over a dozen plants, but has happened with four seeds from these two packets.

Thanks!

Greybeard buys bulk seed from Seedsman and repackages. I know this because Mike and Robin both of Greybeards told me so. Bought 10 feminized pre-98 Bubba Kush about 5 years
ago. All 10 hermied. None of the rest of the strains I was running had any such issues. Got no refund and no replacement seeds.

Thanks. Yeah I’ve had good luck with them until now and have since read of the complaints. I ordered a batch from Alibongo but really am curious as to whether the seeds themselves can germinate and then show problems down the road. From what you state I am gathering “yea”. Sorry for your struggles mate.

I've seen this before in some strains, where most of the seeds that germinate just kinda fizzle out. I attribute it to the specific genetics lack of vigor, but I've read others' opinions that it could be old seeds too. It's hard to say why, but it doesn't necessarily mean you're doing anything wrong.

Thanks. That’s really helpful to know because I want to spare myself an endless trial and error debacle but also don’t want to screw up the new ones when they arrive.

i live in an illegal country. my seed supplier is a European distributor. he sells FastBud seeds. and I can't buy it in the original package because it's hidden shipping. are there any chances that they will send me the seeds of a poor-quality seed bank?

99% chance
I'd never trust anything removed from original packages. If it was like 10years ago... I'd say maybe you have a chance at it being legit but nowadays....? Nah.

If they pop a taproot, I'd say it's prob grower error. Something as simple as dirty hands, contaminated pots, or medium, bringing in spores from outside, heat mats, rough handling sprouted seeds... Can cause issues. Keep it simple. Put the seed in dampened medium, cover up to 1/2" mist with water when needed until sprouts pop up. Resist the urge to look under the soil. She'll pop up when she's ready.

I'm sceptical because I've never come across this problem until new people started growing. It's hard to believe people. Is it possible the seeds were improperly stored resulting in poor germination rates? Or possibly poor genetic crosses? Sure. I can bite on that I guess... Or is it that someone with limited exp (no offence meant op) made a mistake, or came across something they haven't encountered before ....? Hmmm more likely the latter.

UPDATE

Thanks again for all the input. I’ve identified the problem as (drumroll)….the soil. How? I tried growing all sorts of different things in it …. Different batches of seeds, peppers, lettuce….all germinated but failed to last. I opened a new bag of fox farm ocean forest and now I’m back in business. Solid growth once again.

question: the old soil (fox farms happy frog) was delivered in May and I don’t know why it suddenly stopped working. All attempts were first use, not reused. I don’t think the six months or so would be an issue and I’m wondering if I let it get too dry in the bag. Microbes dying comes to mind although I’m not sure.
