From someone who worked for the same company for 40 years, trust me.

This is the correct answer.

HR will investigate and hammer them. Companies don't want law suits and bad publicity, and most modern companies just don't like racists on the payroll.

There's a long line of people waiting for a job that know how to behave.

Hey all,

I'm a asian working in a majority white workplace. there is one other asian and one black guy and the rest are all white, a staff of about 20 or so. For the most part everyone is pretty cool, but there is this one dude...

We'll call him DB. My first week DB let it be known that he was a racist and didn't care for asians with comments like "yeah i'm a racist and proud of it" and "where's that stray cat that used to hang around here? did you eat it?" other gems such as "all christians are white" and "you're more american than the other asian guy" (because I don't have a asian accent).

I didn't really let him get to me b/c it's just words and he is literally a mouth-breathing idiot. I got on pretty good by just ignoring him for the past year.

Well today, during break he almost hit me with his car while he was backing out and I was walking behind his car. He has a tendency to just gun it in reverse without looking, some sort of "being a badass" thing he does. He had to slam on his brakes to avoid hitting me. He was visibly agitated by this.

At the end of the day I was walking back from the time clock, DB was walking towards the timeclock, the path had more than enough room for two people abreast. he goes out of his way to walk into my shoulder with his forcibly shoving me backwards. I ignored him and left for the day. It took everything I had not to turn around and destroy him physically.

What can I do about this? What do you guys suggest? and does anyone have personal experience with when coworker conflicts turn physical?

He's a guy in his 50s with a useless hand (he cut off three fingers last year on the table saw) and I'm a guy in his 30s so I don't think it would be fair for me to retaliate physically, but if he does it again oh man... so what should i do?
Suck his dick till it bleeds, that'll teach him.

My advice is to be nice to him. When he plays his card come back at him with a smile and a witty non confrontational comment and he won't know what to do.

You beat these guys by being better than them not fighting in the mud.

I would do two things(dont forget that Im Balkanac/Slavic) , beat the shit out of him, after the work.. Or try to score some LSD and put it in hes drink food.. Or evem meth.. but whole gram.. let that fucker burn.. but I would first beat the shit out of him!! its balkan style!

Those type people only understand one language: violence. You either take it, or you don't. Frankly, I'd first of all report all of this to you supervisor and advise the supervisor that if he doesn't do something about it, you will.

Then I'd invest in a set of brass knuckles and carry them in your pocket at all times. Next time he fucks with you, you shatter his jaw and leave him toothless if he isn't already. When the police show up, explain the entire situation and that your supervisor refused to do anything about it and that you were in fear of your life.

I can promise you an asshole like that has a record already. You'll walk.

Wounds heal quicker than recovering from loss of income. He deserves to lose his job

HR dept stat.
Any company worth working for would never tolerate that shit.

Horseshit. You beat these guys by absolutely crushing them; in this case financially is the best course. Get him fired, impoverish him. Then 6 mo later you can escalate. Dish best served cold

thanks for the suggestions guys. unfortunately my plan of action will not involve sucking dick(s). another coworker has had problems with DB before but he has successfully de-escalated that situation, i'll see what he has to say and go from there. likely will involve a talk with DB directly, perhaps it wouldn't be a bad idea to have someone there as a witness? redivider your post was especially helpful, thank you
Get a lawyer, record him, sue and get a big settlement, case closed.

That would be going over the head of HR and I can assure you any company would be pissed.

You don't sue until HR goes over the case and doesn't find wrong doing.

Our HR dept. was frequently swamped.

We had a lot of sexual discrimination. A bunch of guys decided they didn't like a cute girl because she wouldn't go out with them. They would do bizzare things like drawing a chaulk outline of a dead body (with tits) in front of her floor locker and leave condom wrappers on the floor, copies of Playboy by her locker, etc.

HR came and took pictures.

She's still there, those guys aren't.

nah, claim you went to hr and they wouldn't do anything, then sue everybody.

A lot time its due to their own inferiority complex. Scared to death a cute girl will work circles around them.

My husband just hired a young girl to haul fill. She has turned out to be one of our best drivers. She's quick, efficient, and she doesnt bash up the equipment. The only comment I've heard is she loads her truck a bit heavy.
