My new orchids have arrived. I wasn't sure how big they would be, or how large the mountings they would be on, so it was anyone's guess what would arrive. They are blooming size, fully grown specimens, at least 5 years old. Very very small! But, still too big for my nano rimless. I ordered another, larger rimless. I carefully selected these for their specific watering, light and lack of rest period, to be assembled into moss paludariums.

Bulbophyllum longistellidium
Bulbophyllum nasica
Dendrobium elliottarium garretti
Platystele johnstonii
Pleurothalis minutalis oxios

There's this whole forum and a thread within it called Other Plants.

I killed my phals this summer but I want some new varieties. Did you get your plants from Orchids Unlimited? They used to have a store in St. Paul, but they are strictly mail order now.

Andy's Orchids, by mail.

These plants I just got have some intense requirements. They will be assembled into automated systems that will mist, fog, and fan them, according to probes giving readings to a raspberry pi. I still need to get the rimless I want, and I'm waiting on my moss substrate, I've gotta build the hard scape.... in the mean time they will need twice daily attention manually.

If you're killing phalenopsis, I don't recommend these :D

I can give care tips if you'd like them.

I kept my 5 phals for years lol. They lost priority last year due to some big home projects and a medical interlude. I had to park them outside for a while where they got too much sun and not enough water, and they would have taken a couple of years to be pretty again so I decided to clear the deck. Species suggestions welcome! Plants with reasonable care requirements that don't require automation to thrive would be nice. Thinking a few Cattleya for my next collection

Ah fair life has a way of bricking your plans

Many of the larger dendrobiums have similar care to phalenopsis.

It's so bizarre. The Feds still classify weed as a narcotic, with the same punishments. They have been laxing up on prosecuting lately, but not entirely. They'll still go after you if you are big enough, or do enough tax evasion.

Things need to change for certain.

“Yes, I am a pirate, two hundred years too late
The cannons don't thunder, there's nothin' to plunder
I'm an over-forty victim of fate
Arriving too late, arriving too late
I've done a bit of smugglin', and I've run my share of grass
I made enough money to buy Miami, but I pissed it away so fast
Never meant to last, never meant to last”

Went into the Margaritaville in Montego bay - like $18.00 for a Margarita. Pfft

We had one each & bolted.
It’s just so fitting.
My Aunt died this morning at 3am. Got the news and then read a little later that Jimmy Buffet died too. When I hear Margaritaville i always thought of my Aunt and always will forever. She made some bomb ass margaritas. She was so much fun.

Very sorry Aero, my guess is she had one helluva welcome home party to attend. Possibly just more good planning and mixing!

Right!
whats a trip is she was the drinker type of partier my mom was the pothead type of partier. They both lost their lives to Alzheimers. My mothers was way more rapid but hit her earlier in life then my aunt. They both still got it too young! But being that my mom smoked pot and had it worse than her sister who didn’t smoke much pot leads me to believe the weed doesn’t help much with Alzheimers?
looks like i’ll be going down south here soon. Seems like the only time i go down there now is when someone dies :-(

I had an Aunt Ella that was a trip, she would put my dad in his place which my mom would NEVER do. She was a beer drinker and I'd bet if I had some weed at the time she would have toked also. She put up with no one's shit, loved her dearly.
