i will address your point then: what good are your rights on a federal level if the states keep taking progressive (regressive, in this case) measures to ensure your right is tougher to obtain?

what good were voting rights for black men when states introduced jim crow laws that were impossible to comply with?

also, it is not my fault that the liberal bastion website i frequent is the most up to date on looking after the protected rights of women nationwide.

after harping on them for years to make it easier for me to pay on time via the standard act of making my billing date on the same day, here is what i heard the month after financial reform passed.

"as a valued member of bank of america, we are making it easier for you to pay your credit card on time and avoid late fees by putting your billing date on the same day each month"

i called them on their bullshit. i informed them that the decision to do so was not based on their benevolence, but rather an act of fucking congress.

you know how people colloquially say "what's it gonna take, an act of congress?"

in this case it did. then they bragged about it. then they got all butthurt and started charging all of their long standing members an annual fee for the same services as before.

i promptly closed the account and gave them a final fuck you.

HMMM I just thought of a great business venture. I think there should be a place for women to get abortions for free. We wont think about the fact that birth control is available for around 50 cents per encounter. Lets not bother with that, lets just kill them before they are born. Women should have the right to choose, its her body anyway, its not a baby yet till it comes out the crack. Let's give it a clever name so people would want to come to. Can you think of any good names we could use?

you want an exact scenario?

most states impose a limit....20 weeks, 24 weeks....beyond those abortion is not permitted. understandably so.

suppose the pregnancy was not discovered until late. it can happen, ya know. there is even a cable show about it. some women did not know they were pregnant until they gave birth (i have little pity for these souls).

do you suppose the time it will take to receive a mandatory government sonogram (and, in some states, endure the mandatory government waiting period) may put them over the time frame in which they are allowed to pursue their rights?

that is a borderline example. but the reasoning still stands.

states can infringe on rights guaranteed to all citizens as well. although i am an ardent supporter of state rights, i have my limits.

Okay, I can see such a scenario where a mother waits until the last minute.

And I wish to make clear that I do not endorse the law. I could give a damn either way. My point is that the additional requirement will not interfere with a woman's access to the procedure.

However, the Texas law requires that the sonogram be performed 24 hours before the procedure.

Essentially this means that the sonogram will be done at the abortion clinic during the initial medical screening.
