Right wing anti woke propaganda targets peaceful protests

We saw it when they claimed BLM protesters were "burning down our cities" or when Portland ANTIFA stood against White Nationalists when they tried to march in their city's streets carrying the flags of White Nationalist groups and even flags with NAZI swastikas. This thread is about all of their propaganda but will begin with the one they are targeting now. That being protests of Israel's war crimes in Gaza.

Propaganda from the right:

The message: Anti-Semitic protesters are violently invading campuses across the country and something must be done to stop them.

What I saw when I watched the video: Protests on campuses are scaring some people and upsetting others. If you simply listen to the right wing echo chamber, you'd think colleges are under assault from Muslim boogey men. Were the protests scary? Undoubtedly they were. Protests are supposed to be disruptive. Some people did things that caused them to be arrested. Some of them might face charges and convictions for things they did if they broke laws. But what I saw were protests, not an assault on either the Jewish people, our schools, our way of life and were not even violent.

Protests like these may not even be a very productive way to gain public sympathy. Studies show protest marches like these create negative feelings against the marchers and by extension, their cause. But that's not the point of this post. It's about how right wing propaganda is distorting the news for political effect/

To counter the 700 Club's Christian Broadcast Network's pearl clutching over campus protests scaring some students, this was broadcast on Morning Edition by National Public Radio:

Debbie Betcher brings a completely different view of what's going on. She tells us that the protest marches are neither the violent show that the 700 club and their ilk say they are, nor are they the whole story. Amid the protest marches that are part of this country's legacy of the 1A in our Constitution, are discussions and gatherings where Pro Israel and Pro Palestinian groups are joined in an effort to come to an understanding.

I really hope that these students saw how they targeted the social justice protests in 2020 and are filming and helping to out the people that would use these (and all future) protests to cause terror.

I also hope that they are wise enough to learn when people try to explain to them the difference between the very real atrocities being caused and what the loaded messaging is trying to trigger them into railing against. According to a lot of the early coverage the nuance is being lost on MSNBC, but I did see a student the other day that really impressed me over making sure that the difference between what was happing off campus and on campus were real was understood.

Right wing agitators are at it again.

This from an albeit left side biased site that has long opposed the US-Israel military alliance.

Democracy Now! 's headline:

Historic Gaza Protests at Columbia U. Enter Day 6; Campus Protests Spread Across Country

The Fox News headline. Note the appeal to emotion in it.

Antisemitism on campus surges as agitators take over
What Fox News report in their facts section is not that different from what is reported in the video from Democracy Now:

Fast Facts
Students at a growing number of U.S. colleges and universities are forming anti-Israel protest encampments on campus in a unified demand that their schools divest from Israel.

The protests began with more than 100 students at Columbia University in New York City and have spread from Massachusetts to California and Tennessee to Texas.

The protests come as the Israel-Hamas war surpassed the six-month milestone earlier this month, which has resulted in tens of thousands of civilian Palestinian deaths. The stories of suffering in Gaza have sparked international calls for a cease-fire and protests around the world.

Recall how Fox's followers are still talking about BLM protesters burned down US cities? That kind of story belongs next to the Greensboro Massacre and Israeli space lasers. Along with the belief that protesters "take over" campuses in their protests. They are protests. Also recall that Fox News is on the side of the men and women of the Jan 6 insurrection, the people who really tried to "take over".

When I accessed the live feed that Hanimmal posted, I found this scene telling. It says much about about the way right wing media is using the protests to further their propaganda about the dire need for a strong leader to stop the decline of "Murrica". There is no "takeover" here. I'm not going to post what an attempted takeover really looks like. Most people already know what the Jan 6 attack on the Capitol Building looked like.

Next to the image is a text board. Different people are posting their own conclusions or perhaps are just paid to post right wing propaganda. Note the immediate response to the "There is no Palestine" post. "Free Palestine." I don't know which post was first but there seems to be people watching who are ready to counter certain messages. Also note the demand that "foreigners" be deported. How Trumpian of them. Also toward the bottom, the jingoistic Texan who is championing Texas's suppression of free speech.

This is what the upcoming election is all about. Trump and his forces are not ever going to accept messages that are outside of the one that he, his fascists and docile Dominionists want said. "Texas said not today children". Which is what the ruling by the 5th circuit court gave "Texas" to say. And they don't really mean "Texas", they mean Greg Abbot's White-Nationalist dominated police state. They don't mean the 47% and growing demographic in Texas who vote for Democrats, they mean the 53% who control nearly all of the seats in their heavily Gerrymandered legislature.

This is what the propaganda surrounding this current protest is all about. They could not care less about campus protests, they care about using these protests to scare people into voting for MAGA's fascist and Dominionist leaders, including Trump.

I just heard something on MSNBC about arrests, and went looking for video.

I don't know anything about the account posting this but it doesn't seem overtly trolly.

Posted 15 hours ago on the same YouTube account that posted the above:

Here is the live cam of at USC.
Just wait a day and we'll see how the right wing media outlets champion that Texan crackdown on free speech. That police actions didn't seem justified.

I decided to look at this one's live vid of the Austin I guess they are calling this a protest, but in the first 20 minutes it just looks like in between class time on any day in Ann Arbor.
. I had to lol at about 21:10, when these guys started waddling in. I guess actually made the cut and didn't have to become gravy seals, lol what a bunch of crap this photo op actually is.

The posted comments were pretty much just a troll.
The live feed is being spammed by trolls. My guess is to distract from the kids marching and to harden people with he arguments they want them to have. Anyways "CaptainAmerica" screams paid foreign troll to me.

You poor thing. your very own neighborhood was trampled and gates broken down by an unruly mob that for some reason nobody can remember seeing. lol

Don't forget the cities that were burned down. We still get references to that in the Politics forum. "oh, so you are so upset about what happened on Jan 6, well what about the BLM riots that burned down those cities?" But again, nobody can show us pictures of those burned out cities.

For Five Months, BLM Protestors Trashed America’s Cities. After the Election, Things May Only Get Worse

The above is a photo from Seattle, where rioting arsonists did manage to burn down a police station.

But still. Entire cities trashed? Pictures or it never happened.

In a year, AI will provide all the photographic evidence anybody could want. Especially to propagandists like Heritage.

We seem to be at a point where the technology of disinformation is booming.
