Wal fart sells reflective hoods made for those type of lights, and for really cheap too. Maybe check it out. They could possibly be at the depot or lowes too.

the 40 wATTs putt out something like 2200 lumens a peice or maybe more i cant remeber. example: my t-5 2ft fixture 2 bulbs put out a total of 4400 lumen not bad and they vegged my plants really nice. but the t-5 was a little bit more expensive than the t-12 and i regret not doing more research and buying a t-12 ... the 400 watt hps puts out 55000 lumesn...SICK. on a second note i wouldnt go into growing with a friend.. its risky business man.. he could go on to tell someone who tells someone else who tells the cops and than your fucked..growing is a lonley game brother best suited for yourself and the people on this site...

It's true it's basically the first rule of growing. But honestly some people can be trusted. Depends on the relationship.

Yeah I understand that, I was really hesitant to even let anyone know what I was doing... haha my first grow was in my closet for a few months until any of my friends found out about it, and I have a few that are over here every day.

but the friend I was talking about I have known wayyy back, me and him started chiefn at like the same time haha, we used to be straightedge and lame stuff like that, but he has a job and has really been wantn to be part of the grow haha, hes been asking me to grow him and plant and stuff like that... but idk we would have to work out details on a deal... i would just worry about there being some sort of argument, especially if i fail again and get nothing... and he knows to keep his mouth shut about everything... and i would be very clear on don't tell anyone you know someone growing, or anything along those lines, don't mention it to anyone, even though he already knows that...

The light does have a reflector, but nothing special, looks like it would work just fine though, I am just unsure about the bulbs spectrum... I need the blues to veg right? Cool While Plus is that light in the blue spectrum?

I think a big problem I have had so far, is all my bulbs are in the flowering spectrum... like everyone of them has an orange tint to it when I stare at it... I couldn't find any packages that said what spectrum the bulb was in, when I bought bulbs, so I just bought whatever... so if I got a T-12 with the tubes in the blue spectrum, I should definitely see some improvement...

My closet is also half filled in the back [literally half of my closet], just stuffed with clothes old boxes and papers blankets and crap... I am thinking about consolidating it, to make more room in the closet, and I will have a lot more room to grow, and possibly setup a test flowering box, just to flower a random plant, and some newly planted sprouts for the hell of it.

oh yeah, I had the most weirdest dream earlier, I took 3 clones from one of my plants haha, I have never cloned before, but in my dream thats what I was doing, I didn't even root it or anything just cut off part and stuck it in the soil haha, wow just remembered that.

word to the wise... clean your goddamn closet lol... seriously if you want a good grow dedicate most of it, if not all of your closet to growing.. i use a large walk in closet to grow six plants and store all my old shit like sports equipment, letterman jacket, shit that ill never use again but cant throw away. but the point is if your using your main clothing closet to grow that can really produce a problem quick.. so be creative and clear out that closet brother...also you definatly need blue spec bulbs for vegg i think red specs are fine for vegg too but i could be wrong .. idealy you want both. i.e one bulb being a blue spec and the other being a red.. the plants love that shit.... i dont know if you can find those bulbs at home depot or not you might have to order from an online hyrdoponics store ( i recomend htgsupply.com) but make sure you get the right size bulbs you need that would suck ass if you fucked it up... there are alot of online bulb stores than you can call up and you can tell them the size fixture you have and what type of color spectrum bulb you need and they will know what to send you!! just do some research man.. on another note i understand that this guy your considering going halfs with on the grow is like your brother... but personally i stick with this golden rule... a very strict rule... and that is tell no one, grow with no one. you may decide to go through with it and except his money but i would highly highly reccomend that you dont.. straight from the heart man i want to see you succeed with this grow and stay out of trouble. with how young you are you really dont want to end up in the slammer. that would send your life in direction you dont want to go in.

Haha thanks, I really hope I do grow successful that would be amazing haha.

I really want to clean my closet... but its all stuff I cant throw away, and I dont want to go to the basement, and my rooms already packed... so the best I could do is rearrange it somehow to make a lot more room... I am still thinking... but to get back to that part of the closet I have to take down my whole setup, its blocking the way. All the clothes and stuff in there are old clothes we dont wear anymore.

The plants are not looking pretty though .

I transplanted Beta into the dollar general and 1/4 miracle grow mix, the pot is probably a little less than a gallon. I raised the hood about 4 inches, and added a few more CFLs and rearranged all the lighting... maybe it will work better like this... I still need to work on the setup so I can box in all the light, and still have an area to vent out the heat... hmm, it would be so much easier to make with the t-12s.

but I have no chance of ordering anything off the internet, I don't have a credit card, and I dont want to order anything suspicious here... so until I move out, I am stuck growing with whatever I can get at the local stores (Dollar General, Walmart, Lowes, and Home Depot)...

yes it wud be alot easier for u to do it with t-12s thats what i use in one of my rooms to veg em out ( i have 3 veg rooms..one with mh , one with cfls, one with floros) i use the floros and it works pretty well... not hard to get te light where u want it .. if ur closet is big enuff thats wut i suggest ...the thing at wal-mart is only like ... $12... and the bulbs (cool blue) are like $4 ..dont give up trial and error .. ulll be alffing at urself in a year haha

So the T-12 thing at walmart is only $12? then $4 on bulbs so I am looking at $16, how big is it? I could definitely afford that.

My closet is pretty big, about 10ft long (currently like 5ft long since the entire back is packed with junk, and 3-4ft wide, the ceiling has a pretty steep slope though, so on one side of the wall the roofs normal height, on the other side its muchhhh lower.

haha and yeah I will probably be stoned as fuck in a year lookn back over these journals and laugh my ass off.

ya bout 20 bucks man for everything ... what u will want to do is go get the eye holder things (fporget the name haha) so u can get sonme cheap chainm and hang them its bout 4ft long .. so ur good if u got 10 bro

Awesome, I couldn't find it on the walmart website though, I will check the store next time I go. The one at Home Depot looks pretty nice too though, 6 1/2 in reflector, and it has the chain and everything included, its 4ft long as well, and supports 2 40w tubes.

hopefully with this new method of lighting, and new soil I will have better results... not sure when I will get it setup though.

Still no pictures... been lazy now that the plants aren't looking amazing. The 3 sprouts in the 1 cup are growing like crazy though... i dont know if its the new lighting or what, but they aren't looking bad at all... maybe its because theres 3 of them in the cup of miracle grow, versus 1, meaning 1/3 strength of the MG on each one, its more diluted because more plants are taking the nutes... so I think if I got new soil, I would be wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better off.

The 3 sprouts will probably start looking bad when there roots start tangling and gets too small for the cup - which I am surprised has not already happened.

I removed Alpha from under the lights - it is as good as dead, its stem has shrunk and it is 100% crisp and dry, no life left in it... its almost a month old and so much smaller than my 15 day old plants. What do I care, more room for the others now.

hmm, the three sprouts in one cup are doing very well, better than any of the other plants... makes me really think miracle grow is the problem with the plants doing the droop after about 2-3 weeks. The other sprouts have started to droop and do the same exact thing every single plant I have put in miracle grow did... everything thats planted in miracle grow is going to die no doubt about it anymore... it just doesn't work. I need to transplant everything ASAP.

Beta was transplanted a few days ago into the miracle grow and dollar general mix. It has been quite a few days since I topped Beta, but I can kinda see 2 heads growing... not quite sure at this point.

I just realized something too, I thought my whole first grow was done in miracle grow, and it just died a lil over 2 months in when I was starting to flower, before that it looked pretty good, and was starting to thrive in the giant bucket of soil... thats why I thought I would be aight to use miracle grow again... well looking back at old pictures reminded me... I was getting ready to transplant my 2 main plants into the giant bucket, divided by cardboard, I filled most of the bottom of the bucket with miracle grow, then I ran out and used Dollar General for the rest, some at the bottom, and I filled all the space around the plant and the sides of the bucket with dollar general... so the only miracle grow left was the decent amount at the bottom, and what was already in the root clump when I transplanted it (it was originally in miracle grow as well, and had started looking very bad, so I transplanted because I thought the cup was too small, it was the soil causing it to die, the cup it was in was definitely big enough), so both plants started to recover in the bucket, and grow decent sized, and then bam I flower, nothing for awhile, then they start to die... I think the roots expanded into the dollar general soil, recovered, and then hit the bottom where it was all miracle grow and died.

Im very curious to see what a plant would look like if I started it in dollar general soil, though that soil doesn't drain really at all, and it looks sorta weird, doesn't have the consistancy that a soil like miracle grow has at all... dollar generals is all clunky some massive chunks of soil you gotta break up, and it turns pretty solid as soon as it dries out, which takes like a minute to dry out the top... I still need to get to Lowes and find a new soil.

I am blaming every problem so far on the miracle grow, I believe my setup is perfectly fine, and there is a lot more than 50w per sq ft, the space inside is probably 2 sq ft, and I have about 8 cfls all atleast 23w, most 26w and 1 of them 40w, that is enough light no doubt.

Temps are fine, consistent day to day, night to night. Humidity back down at 20%, ouch.

I haven't tested the pH of the water yet, but I am sure it's fine, I let it sit a few days, and plus if water was the problem, all the plants would be dieing, not just the ones that have been in the miracle grow the longest.

I am going to start germinating 3 sour apple bagseeds today, and get ready to plant them in new soil whenever I get it, should be asap.

I am also planning on transplanting whichever plants I can into whatever new soil I get... but there will definitely have to be some killed off .

I just got a bag of bagseed Kind Bud seeds... I could grow some of these too, so I have sour apple bag seeds, and kind bud bag seeds, plus the juicy fruit I am already growing - I think I lost the rest of those bag seeds god damnit... I don't even think we can get juicy fruit anymore, so if all my plants die, no chance of chiefin juicy fruit again for a very longggg time, and I won't be able to grow it again - seeds are gone somewhere... I probably got them mixed in with all the shwag bag seeds when I was stoned as fuck haha.

The Timer is most definitely not correct, its gotten 20 minutes off from the time I set it for about 10 days ago... well looks like this timer never fails me from fucking up, I will have to buy a new one whenever I get ready to flower - god damnit haha.

I still haven't had the chance to get them, just got some pretty decent snow and its real bad out haha.

Still got the CFLs, but its looking better... I sealed all the light in from the front, so besides some small cracks its mostly getting out of the back now.

Alpha is officially dead, I pulled it a few minutes ago, I may eat the leafs just because I got nothing better to do haha.

Chi is drooping worse... I may transplant it later, but I really don't know what the dollar generals soil is gonna do so ehhh... better than its miracle grow death sentence I guess haha.

Beta has some new growth, but its hella tipping over, I really messed up transplanting it haha, but it does look like its getting better-ish... it definitely doesn't look anywhere as bad as Chi does.

I will post pictures on my next post, 4 hours max, probably a lot sooner.

I still need to germinate some seeds, I think I will germinate 3 sour apple, I think I have 3-4 bag seeds. I may germinate some kind bud seeds too, and experiment with those sprouts, since I am about to have some extra CFLs for a period of time as soon as I get the floros.

I am pretty excited to see what happens in new soil and under new lights, hopefully this time next week I have some sprouts under the new floros in whatever new soil I end up buying.

The cup with 3 sprouts is doing the best outta everything, I really don't want to kill any of them off ... I may just keep all 3, transplant to a really big bucket... but ehhh they are a bit too close together.

Chi is about dead, all the leafs drooped, no growth in several days, it still has its top set of leafs green-ish, but they are drooped and have shrunk badly. So thats going to be the second one month old plant dead, Beta would be the only one left.

well if any of those three turn out males your gonna have to cut em' right at the bottom of the stalk ....trying to seperate those roots may not work..youll have to be extremely tedious..even then they may not survive the shock

Yeah, originally I was planning on just killing 2 of them, I only planted 3 because I had 2 extra germinated seeds, no reason to waste... but then I left them, and now, they are the only decent looking ones... and since its now almost been 20 days, I would feel bad killing 2 of them, when they are the healthiest ones... transplanting each one individually isn't an option like you said... so I can either leave all 3 and see what happens, giving them a much bigger container, and when they are flowering if some do turn out as males, they will touching the neighboring plants, so that wouldn't be good...

Aight, I just watered all the unnamed sprouts, and I transplanted Chi into a pot full of dollar general soil, so the only miracle grow present is what was in its root ball, I added another CFL as well. The plants are now also much better lit, closer to the lights and everything. I also put some more soil in Betas container because the stem was bent coming out of the ground.

damn... and you think that's all cause of the miracle gro?

Looks like I was wrong... the one guy at the start posted so much stuff about how impossible it was to grow in miracle grow, and that I was wasting my time. I got some input from others, and looks like I should be fine with MG.

Sooo I really dont know what I am doing wrong. I guess I will see what happens whenever I get the new lights, should be soon.

But the 3 sprouts in one cup are doing quite well, way better than the other 2 sprouts that each had there own cup, that I planted at the same time.

And wow, looking back at old pictures, the are growing way beyond abnormally slow -_-. Nothing seems to fucking work -_-.

Well, I just watered Beta and Chi, Ch is not looking well at all... soon it will be the second of a long line of dead plants. I think I have a pH problem, MG soil starts off low, and I have done absolutely nothing to adjust it. I read the root stunting and slow growth is caused by a low pH, and nutes can get locked out. I can't really test the pH, but it couldn't really hurt to try to raise it very slightly, right now I am looking at 0% success, can't do much worse eh.

Haha damn im so pissed. It will be my 5th grow before I can even have something make it 2 months again, and then I get to try flowering for the second time so that can get screwed up again.

I really am pissed off at greenweed420 though, this entire time he made me believe MG was the problem and I was wasting my time my plants deaths were inevitable, so this entire time I have been sitting here thinking my plants are doing bad because of miracle grow and theres nothing I really could do, not because I am screwing something up, so this whole time I have been wasting my time, I could have been trying to fix the problem, but instead I was just thinking as soon as I get new soil I will be perfectly fine, and I wont.
