Rubbermaid Grow Box

Hey guys, I'm about 3 weeks in to my first grow. I set up a little grow box using a rubbermaid 18 gallon tote. My plant is 3 weeks from seed and is supposedly some mango kush. The only problem is that the first set of true leaves are yellowing and I'm not sure why. They began yellowing very early on, maybe about after the first week. They seem to be the only leaves yellowing (besides the water leaves) and tho they've been yellow for over two weeks now, it has not interrupted new growth. Please let me know what you think.

Nice setup :D Looks great. The yellowing could be from a few things, N deficiency or your ph is off. What soil are you using? What nutes?

Ahh I remember my 1s grows.. making gadgets.. boxes... all failed.. but still nice to remember.. you sir Underestimate the Vigor of the Marijuana Plant..

small for 3 weeks.. no nutes until its mcuh larger... let soil dry a little to make the roots look for water. roots should be as large as the greenery

I haven't used any nutes yet. The soil is some organic miracle grow 10-5-5. As for light, I have (3) 23w 6500k, (2) 23w 2700k and (1) 23w 3500k. Any suggestions would be nice. Like where to get a ph meter?

I wouldn't be putting a power bar at the bottom of a box if I were you, run off from the pot could reach the bar and cause a short. Shorts lead to problems bigger than you want to be dealing with....

I learnt the hard way - electricity fucking hurts

Alright, let's start off small. Let's just work on the recovery process.
1. Remove all light bulbs, leave only ---> TWO of your 6500k lights
2. Lower the lights
3. Let soil dry a bit
4. Attempt to lower temperatures
There is always the chance that it was a genetic deficiency in the actual plant. We will work on the rest once it has recovered and gained size. It is WAY too small for 3 weeks, mine is already 4-5x as big at like 15 days.

1. I removed all light but 2 6500k's
2. I decided to just raise the pot up rather that lowering the lights
3. I'm letting the soil dry a bit.
4. Since I removed all other bulbs the temp. is fluctuating between 82 and 88.

Thanks for all the advice, it is greatly appreciated. Hopefully I'll have a pic of the new setup soon.

MG sometimes has 'weed killer' nutrients that sometimes kill off smaller - less hardy plants. I've grown in MG but its hit or miss depending on the strand. 92 is way too hot, and your soil looks dry. Small pot plants starting off are very delicate and between the intense heat, non-ideal lighting, and the MG - chances arent looking good. Keep it hydrated - its burning on the leaf ends so dont starve it any more than you already are. Get a better light and get working on a larger, more permanent set up. Although plants produce oxygen, I still feel like this set up is starving it. How often do you see people starting their grows inside of a Tupperware container?

edit: 82 is perfect. Hopefully that helps alone.

Ya it's already much cooler in there. I still need to add an intake fan but I was waiting till I could get a dimmer cause I have a badass fan to put in there it's just too loud, as this is supposed to be a stealth grow. The MG is all I have under the circumstances but I'm hoping to get some FFOF for my next grow. I would definitely love a much bigger setup but I can't really get to much bigger than a tote or two due to nosy parentals, so I'll have to wait till I move out. Till then, growing even at this rate is pretty damn fun and gives me something to look forward to.


What do you guys think about flushing the MG soil to remove nutes?

It sounds like the soil is to acidic for the plant. Just keep using water only. It would be great if you could water a couple times with some ro water. How is the yellowing? Can you update some pics?

I don't have a ph meter yet and I'm thinking I'll have to order one online. The yellowing hasn't really spread to other leaves last I checked. I'm at work now, but I'll be able to post pics later today. Thanks for stopping by!

Swing by your local walmart they have ph meters and test strips in there pool/water section.

I already looked but I guess I'll have to look specifically for the pool section. I found some test strips in the aquarium section but they were useless because they only (inaccurately) gauge ph's between 6 and 8. I was also thinking I should look in either a hardware store or a pool supply. I'll try and get that today, but if not it looks like I might be ordering one.
