Rurumo's HLG 650R Grow Journal

I'd like to thank HLG and @pop22 for their generosity and the chance to test out the HLG 650R. This is my first quantum board type LED, and previously have used all manner of HID, as well as a Medic Grow Fold-8 bar light, and a Mars Hydro FC6500. I'm glad to finally try out an HLG. I'm not sure what I expected, but I was surprised at how heavy it is-that's a solid chunk of metal! It's easier to maneuver around than the bar lights though, because they fold and this one is a single, solid piece. It's VERY bright compared to a bar light. So far I can see one issue that I might have, which is, my vent fan will get in the way if I cinch up the rope rachets all the way, but when that time comes, I can just move it.

Very bright at 40%

This is a good option for people with arthritis, even though it's kind of heavy, it's not super awkward to move around like the bar lights. I'll update this thread more and more as the crop takes off and will update weekly once I flip to 12/12.

Off topic: Here is my little Strawberry Cough clone that I reversed with STS. It was stunted for a week after the 3rd sts spray, but now it is taking off again and the new growth is healthy, so I think it will be fine. We have to do so much waiting in this hobby!!

I'll be growing Cinderella 99 F4s from Fleur Du Mal seeds this time around and I can't wait to see how they do under this light! It really is super bright, I plan on being very careful since it's my first time with this type of light, which is much more concentrated than my bar lights.

Thank you all for checking out my grow journal! I'll definitely keep my other thread going with my other thoughts and ideas about growing and breeding, as well as my reversal projects.

Here are a couple of my little Cindy 99's:

These two look A LOT like the last Cindies I grew. I'm feeding Maxigrow/Kelp Extract/Mr Fulvic/Yucca Extract at .9 ec once per day to considerable runoff. Tribus once per week. Weekly neem oil/southern ag GFF/Yucca extract (GS plant foods) IPM foliar. I picked up a pack of these little pots one day when I saw them, they are like if you cut a party cup in half and have amazing drainage in the bottom. Media is 50/50 Canna and Hydrofarm Grow !t coco-really nice blend of fiber sizes and easy to water seedlings in.

I want to try keeping them small, just for practice for my next round with landrace sativas, so I'm thinking about doing 4 BIG FAT COLAS for each plant, and I want to test out the new 1.5 gal air pots I just got. To be honest, I think 3 gallon pots are the best if you only want to water twice per day, in terms of yield. Last time I tried feeding twice per day in 2 gal pots, and that worked well too, with a slight reduction in yield over 3 gal pots fed twice daily. I really like the idea of using less media since I don't need a ton of herb for myself, and I don't sell it or anything. I have one Blackberry bush that is mulched thick with last year's buds LOL. I love pushing myself to yield more and more, but sometimes it's nice to take a break and experiment with different training methods, fertilizers, etc. Right now I'm just feeding them all Maxigrow, but I plan on feeding one of these with my CSL formula, I just wanted to start once I knew what I was going to keep. I'll keep you guys posted on that, it will be so fun to do another organic/mineral salt comparison.

I've linked this grow journal by SMT69 in my other thread and I'm thinking of training my plants the same way. I won't do the blumats this time around but I have pretty much everything I need to try it at some point. https://www.rollitup.org/t/hazemans-strawberry-cough.982264/. I love that grow journal.

Have a great weekend folks!

Looking good as always, @Rurumo ill be tuned in to see both how these girls do in flower and how this light works out for you !

Currently, I love my 350R but also need to upgrade later this year, so I may be in the market for a 650R or even a Scorpion Diablo possibly !
Thanks anthony! I'm really blown away by the initial quality of the light, I think you'd love either of those! I've gotten one of my friends to pop a few of my FDM seeds too, so I'll get pics of any good phenos he finds. He's doing the Sweet Tooth #4 for sure, and I think a few C99 and ESB. I gave him seeds from all their strains that I have, and I think my Indiana Bubblegum Bx2 seeds are probably sitting in my PO BOX right this moment. I wish one of us had room for a few of those right now, I miss that flavor. Indiana Bubblegum is one of the most underrated "elite" strains. I would take it or Sweet Pink Grapefruit over any of the $1,000+$ fotm cuts. Sorry got waaaay off track there lol.

Man, you keep mentioning this Indiana Bubblegum and my mouth waters a little every time. I feel like I will be picking up a pack of that in the future.

I can’t wait to see any of those pics as they flower, those c99s and Indiana bubblegum are on my list to grab “next” but hopefully I can try everything from them before long !

I also would much rather hunt through seeds and strains like these for example on my own over time than pay a ridiculous price for some new FOTM cutting from a clone seller…
