600 would work good but, for a SOG = 1K would be premium
SOG has no netting/frame or training!

Hmm, 4x4 and 9 4.5 gallon pots and a 1K - - - I'll guess that done right, you could pull right about 900-1100 grams with the right strain in that with SOG...
To do that with 9 pots would be more work like topping and training...It would be a lot harder to match the yield and bud size/bag appeal of the SOG..could be done though I suppose..maybe

what light sources are you running?
Basically the SOG method will give you around 1oz per plant with OPTIMAL conditions under HID lights, UNLESS you veg your SOG for longer but then i guess it would near turn into a SCROG...
but i think if you haven't attempted a SOG before you could be happy with around 7-14g per plant SOG.
9 Plants is far too many for a comfortable grow in that size room, i think you should be aiming for around 5 plants for that size area as you will need to be able to get inside the tent at times and with 9 plants that's going to be absolutely packed in bloom period...

Im sure you've heard this before but Im gonna, use the cfl for veg and get a hps. It will pay itself back X2 in your first grow.

why bother with HPS lol, 4x 300W CFL's will outperform one 400Whps even a 600W hps so what does he do?
buy a 1000W HPS draw heaps of power for probably a lower yield still yet?
CFL's at that size can perform amazingly, i have 2x 130W CFL lamps and they will flower even 4 plants in a medium sized tent perfectly.
I also have a tent run with 2x 600W lights, which is amazing and wont be outperformed but money isn't an issue with what im doing,.
10 years ago fluorescent growing was so lacklustre but now it is an amazing plateu.

scrog that way you can grow big but have control over how the plant grows,sorry i thought you would have known what i meat table wise .
Like i said my room is 12 ft x 12 ft 8 ft height,i flower at just over 2 1/2 ft ,but a lot of grower's scrog during veg i start my scrog at the start of 12.12 off
i just keep tucking the tops under the netting (table) for the first 3 week then,leave them to do what they want after that,they end up 4/5 ft tall but with
far more top's and it allows you to grow big plant's but with control,over them.
With 2 x 600 hps light's you should get a very tidy end result,i only do two for the reason it suits my need's,The most i have ever had from doing 6 plants in my room was 6 per plant that was with 2 600's and a swinger though.You defo need the light,even if it means just using one 600 hps,
I'm not really the person to ask about getting big yeilds from cfl's to be honest,never used them for flowering i use them for getting clones going rooted but that is has far has i go with them.
Be interesting to see what you get in the end if i read the post right are you useing cfl's

If running the hps lights is a problem money wise,lets face it it aint cheap,iwould advice getting a couple t-5 's there brilliant .
The plants below are all vegged under t-5 all my veg work is done under them big room straight flowering might put them on 18/6 for 7/12 days top's

Just bang has many has you can get in the tent then and sog,
Have a serious think about the lighting situation though cfl's are ok but for reading a book the aint got the juice to produce large yeild's
