Funny thread, people are so paranoid, i prefer to do research instead of listening to random people, go look at bust that are being made(you know they arent secret or anything) They are all tipped off by somebody. Cops arent cruising around in helicopters scanning random houses and random electric bill, those are the things they do after they are on to you, they arent things that lead to a search warrant they are the things they have to have a search warrant to do. You will need over a 1000watts easy to even show up on FLIR, and has far as electricity goes, do you have any idea how many watts a computer is, or other devices? And just because you dont get busted in the first 6 months doesnt mean you wont get busted, like i said it wont be flir or the electrical company that gets you it will be a tip,and once you do start using that grow room thats when you have to worry about somebody smelling or noticing something.
Finally some common sense. I bet more people get busted because they didn't think about odor control.

Power usage is evidence of nothing, and not enough evidence to secure a search warrant, so why would anyone thing the police would waste their time looking there, and If the police are tipped off by the power company it's because of abnormal usage - not easily explained by hot tubs, workshops, electrical appliances, etc.

here's a funny story about a man who was falsely busted for Pot in Canada, because "his electricity costs were high because his home has a 40-by-20-foot electrically heated outdoor swimming pool, an electric sauna and "three kids who don't turn off a light and leave TVs playing all over the house and wear clothes once, then put them through the wash." Okay not sure where your getting your info. But here in BC they have these new helicopters that they just bought. They bought 20 of them and they are all equipt with this infer red for the houses and they fly up and down all the time. I have many friends that have just been busted after seeing these fly over so if you think these guys don't have these your very very wrong. Like I said they have new toys from the war. They have much much more then that. I seen a show about all the toys they have and if you had seen this show you would be very:sad: scard. Now I'm not trying to scare anyone here,. I'm just saying never think that they don't know what they are doing. Your DEA came to Canada with there toys about 4 years ago and they have been playing with these fucking toys so we know all about these fucking toys and what they are doing.. Because we have the Olmypics coming they are really fucking things up here. And yes they hydro companies DO report to the cops here!!!!!! peace out Headband707
That's Canada, since 2006, but we're probably headed down the same road soon.

BC Liberal Government Helps Communities Bust Grow-Ops
April 6, 2006

Amendments to the Safety Standards Act will help local authorities target and shut down marijuana grow operations more quickly and efficiently.
April 6, 2006
VICTORIA – Amendments to the Safety Standards Act will help local authorities target and shut down marijuana grow operations more quickly and efficiently, Minister Responsible for Housing Rich Coleman announced today.
“The number of grow-ops in our province is increasing and so are the problems associated with these operations,” said Coleman. “Grow-ops are more likely to catch fire, more likely to have guns inside and are more likely to be robbed. They pose a danger to our neighbourhoods and we’re determined to shut them down.”
With these amendments, electricity companies will be required to give municipalities information about residences with unusual power consumption, so local authorities can target grow-op houses more efficiently.
“Marijuana grow-ops are a $7-billion industry in B.C. and they are largely controlled by organized crime,” said John Les, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General. “This new tool will be an innovative way to find out where these criminals are operating and put them out of business.”
Grow-ops in homes also pose an electrical safety risk. A house with a grow-op is considerably more likely to catch fire than a typical home. Dangling lights and wires can trap emergency responders and result in electrocution.
Fire Chief Len Garis, chair of the Fire Chiefs Association of BC, Public Safety Initiative, welcomed the new legislation. “When our members enter homes, our first priority is firefighter safety and to save lives,” he said. “We don’t want to worry about the additional threats posed by grow-ops, such as electrocution from dangling wires and dangerous lights.”
“I’m pleased that the government of British Columbia is leading the fight against grow operations,” said Marvin Hunt, president of the Union of British Columbia Municipalities. “A pilot project conducted in Surrey last year demonstrated how successful this approach can be. In just three months, we dismantled 119 grow operations. This legislation will clearly go a long way for B.C. communities.”
Tips from the public remain the best source of information for police about potential grow-ops. Here are several ways to identify possible grow operations:
  • Entry to the home is usually through the garage or a back entrance to conceal activity.
  • Windows are boarded or covered and may have a layer of condensation.
  • Equipment such as large fans, lights and plastic plant containers is carried into the home.
  • Sounds of construction or electrical humming can be heard.
  • Strange odours (a skunk-like smell) emanate from the house.
  • The neighbourhood experiences localized surges or decreases in power.

Wow I'd have never imagined Canada doing this to it's citizens just based on high power consumption, and going even further in the future. That is worse than in the US and I've have never believed it in a million years had you not provided links to proof. Thank you Green Cross.

I thought you Canuks used to do a much better job of protecting your rights, what happened? Where's the public outcry for blatant invasion of privacy especially when it affects so many innocents and puts them out on the streets homeless?

Who's buying the idea that the harm from this is less than the harm from the weed itself?

Good thing I prefaced a few of my posts with "at least in this country"...

So so sad... It's not just Marc Emery I guess, everyone's getting screwed there. Is that girl that sold cookies at the beach on the documentary the uniion now sitting in jail for 20 years or something if they're getting this hard nosed about pot all the sudden?

LOL, look at their health care, come on. Just because Canada is less harsh on weed doesn't mean they are on the growers, or as our governments like to call "Manufacturing Marijuana".

Their health care has nothing to do with it and is better than ours by a mile. Does everything have to bring that topic up? I'm getting tired of even hearing about it.

Have some respect for the thread topic and just don't derail this thread at all ok? Please...
