Commenting on hermes a little bit. With the rationalization the government uses to ban weed, sugar should be banned too. Any harmful effects present in the world today on account of weed would be minute compared to obesity, diabetes, and poor mental health. Yes, an imbalanced sugar consumption leads to POOR MENTAL HEALTH and possibility of mental illness.

In fact there are several detoxifying deitery plans that have successfully cured mental illness. These plans involve the elimination of sugar from ones diet entirely.

BAN SUGAR!!!!

I mean..if pot is going to be illegal the goverment should be fucking consitant and ban all harmful addictive chemicals (like sugar).

Wow. I know I'm going to be hated for this.

Anyway... I'm sorry. I have to agree with (At least slightly) some of this research which seems to indicate negative affects associated with marijuana use. I know everyone loves to hate the anti drug scene, but I think they have a point. Smoking marijuana is NOT healthy. It is unhealthy. Smoking ANYTHING is unhealthy. Abusing ANY drug is unhealthy. I have heard of these links between cannabis and Schizophrenia before. I don't know if they are true or not, but I DO know that smoking weed day after day for years cannot be a good thing.

I encourage everyone to cook with their weed or to vaporize it. At least by doing that you'll be saving your lungs. I love weed. But I love myself more.

yeah, cannabis can def have somebody go skitzo. happens to me every time. last summer i completely snapped, took me a few months of sobriety to get my shit back together. its easy to keep this from happening tho, if u start to feel paranoia or anxiety, quit smoking. simple as that.

the scientists arent saying that weed causes schizophrenia, theyre saying that it can increase symptoms. mental disorders arent like infections, u dont catch them. everybody is a little bit skitzo, some folks more than others and some have a real hard time with it.

I don't understand the link between anxiety and cannabis. I was on xanex and zoloft for ages due to an anxiety disorder and clinical depression. There wasn't a day that I didn't want to hide in a closet or have suicidal fantasies. Terrible terrible thing to go through, all that fear and hate and self loathing without an explainable reason. The condition fed on itself. I think the symptoms got worse with the zoloft, not to mention the unpleasantness of diarrhea every morning! I have ceased all meds for the past three years. I smoke a very small bowl most every evening and have never felt better. I also rarely drink anymore. I did drink myself to sleep every night and that may have contributed to my condition.

Now I'm NOT saying it is wise to self medicate or to take yourself off of doctor prescribed medications. They may save your life by saving you from yourself. I made that decision on my own because the meds weren't helping but were making things worse. What I'm trying to say is that I've had little to no anxiety since I started smoking on a regular basis. Your mileage may vary. Drink Guiness responsibly. My views and opinions do not necessarily reflect those of rollitup.org.

thats a chance im willing to take...hell atleast i will never be alone if im skitzo
fyi, paranoid schizophrenia is a completely different disorder than multiple personality disorder, not to be an ass or anything

I don't understand the link between anxiety and cannabis...
personally, ive been a bit of a loner, especially during my adolescent years i relied on my own imagination to keep me busy most of the day. also, for years i was going thru a self-loathing phase of my own. when i smoke my mind races, i seem to have no control over my imagination, and sometimes my old, negative self comes back. occasionally, i have times where 2 hrs of being high by myself will have me questioning every social interaction in the previous two weeks and then instantly assuming the worst case scenario. even if i was flirting with a cute girl and we hit it off real well, i may assume a week later that she was simply being horribly sarcastic and i was socially retarded for not noticing it at the time.

last summer i fell into a fucked up spot where i thought that my buddy was just a figment of my imagination, he was my polar opposite, and because he was always happy (obviously a half-baked assumption), the only way i was ever going to have a happy life was to kill him and his girlfriend.

swear to god im not fucking around. if anyone doesnt think that smoking might increase chances of developing negative, psychosomatic tendencies theyre dead wrong.

Friends, don't dismiss ALL research out of hand. I, personally, believe all drugs should legal because I believe free humans should be able to police themselves. So, if you know something is not good for you, don't do it.

But, People's minds and bodies are different. It would not be unreasonable to assume that there are some people on the planet that should NOT smoke. Just as some cannot drink because of chemical imbalances in the brain or body. If metal illness runs in your family, maybe you should refrain from a very mental drug like canabis.

The problem with this artical and all like it, is it's scare tactic that blows everything up to larger preportions then the science has even proven yet. To the writers: I understand that you hate and/or fear weed. But just report facts without the fucking government hype.

These scientists shouldnt be wasting their valuable time on marijuana but should instead be doing research on how dangerous all the PRESCRIPTION drugs that have deadly side effects and kill tens of thousands of people each year...drugs like Fen Fen ,Vioxx and Bakol.
