Secure And Private Browsing (for free)

Seems to work really well, although most relays have trouble with anything beyond just a page load (i.e. huge images, streaming, etc.).

It's really nice for general browsing, though.

Tor prevents anyone from learning your location or browsing habits.
Tor is for web browsers, instant messaging clients, remote logins, and more.
Tor is free and open source for Windows, Mac, Linux/Unix, and Android

What is Tor?

Tor is free software and an open network that helps you defend against a form of network surveillance that threatens personal freedom and privacy, confidential business activities and relationships, and state security known as traffic analysis

Why Anonymity Matters

Tor protects you by bouncing your communications around a distributed network of relays run by volunteers all around the world: it prevents somebody watching your Internet connection from learning what sites you visit, and it prevents the sites you visit from learning your physical location. Tor works with many of your existing applications, including web browsers, instant messaging clients, remote login, and other applications based on the TCP protocol.

With so many paranoid people on this forum, I would have thought this would have garnered more attention.

Its probably cause this section does not get as much attention as the other sections. Am sure it will benefit alot of the people that visit this site

Yeah, it's great. I use it with a Chrome extension that switches to my Tor proxy chain for rollitup.org.

It's called Switchy!, if anybody is interested. There are similiar varieties for Firefox, as well.

Those looking to get a quick start with Tor should check out Vidalia, the starship graphical client for Tor:

I wouldn't recommend using Tor for everything, but setting up site-specific rules is one way to significantly increase privacy online.

it isn't so much being watched, it is more about if they wish to
investigate, they won't get far if you go about it right..
Take it a step further and create a tor vm image and run that.
Encrypt the image with truecrypt and unless someone has a lot of money and time
your ass is covered even if your gear is seized..
like your sig suggests conceal it..

They would have to evidence on you in order to get a warrant to tap your connection.

Either way, I'd prefer if they always get less on me rather than more.

Yeah, TrueCrypt has treated me well in the past. Great piece of encryption software, especially with the ability to set up a hidden volume.

I agree with you brother. Create a VM, install Tor and some encryption and shabang. Also I was doing some reading this weekend and there is a USB stick you can purchase with TOR and a bunch of other software on it. It is called stealthsurfer II and works with WinxP SP2 and a few other distros. Does not work with Win7 or MAC, it is a little pricey but it is portable browsing. Seems worth the money. I have had Tor on a PC or two before and could not stand the speed when browsing. The stealthsurfer also encrypts all web traffic via SSL. They got a stealthsurfer III out as well. Just putting the info out there for yall.
