So, I'm currently growing a feminized sprout, and im about to make a new order for some seeds - what are the ups and downs of feminized seeds, and regular seeds, i feel like something must be lost getting feminized seeds, or else it wouldnt be a question
who likes what?

well fem/ reg seeds. if you want some males get reg.. if you want only females get (fem). if i want to make a seed run then ill buy reg seeds most the time i buy 10 and 3 or 4 will be males.

For some strains or maybe just in general, feminized seeds can be more likely to hermie. This is just what I've read and have no personal experience with it, so take it just as such.

I like the idea of feminized seeds because you can plan your grow room/space around knowing that they will all be female. With regular seeds, there's always the uncertainty of how many will turn out male and how much bud you can end up with.

Personally, my grow space will be all female using clones from mothers rather than starting from seeds. I just have to start with the feminized seeds that I just ordered, Barney's Red Dragon.

ahh, now that u mention it i remember hearing that about the hermie likeliness, so i guess thats where i got my doubt from - but, i havent seen it confirmed or anything

my understanding is that breeding with feminized seeds is undesirable
so if you want to create your own crosses, feminized may not be the way to go

Feminized seeds very often carry hermaphrodite traits, you don't want to start cloning a bunch of hermies, you just end up with mostly seeds. You have to make clones of all your seed based plants, then grow your seed based plants to flower and see which ones carry the traits, then cull all the clones that came from the hermi traited plants. Keep the clones from the plants that showed no hermi traits. This should net you a stable female from which you can make infinite amount of clones. This takes time.

Regular seed based plants tend to have much less hermaphroditism and therefore once you have found a female showing pre-flowers you can usually just go ahead and make clones and skip the flowering process. saves lots of time.

I have done it both ways many times in the past. My current best mother came from feminized seed and the other one came from seed stock. I tend to clone 32 plants every 60 days.

okay, so thats the comment i was lookin for, think im gonna go the no-hermie au naturale way and get a lil 10 pack of regular seeds, grow 3 n kill the male/males
-also thinking of crossing strains sometime soon, as a roommate is looking into growing so I could use his space too :weed:

Its not a matter for debate.. its a matter of what you need.. do you have ample funds for constant new seeds and limited space for possible males? buy feminized.

If your everyone else and want to breed your plants and make tons of seeds and play God, buy regular.

Beware of cheap feminized seeds though.. some are hermi prone :cuss:

well as you may imagine by seeing my name, i don't feel i can play God, per say - rather i just play part in the flow and change of life - which, of course, means that im gonna instigate a little change of my own, particularly to the network of cannabis strains in existence

lol dude iv been buying fem for a while and i have never had a herm. had a lot of males. personaly fem all the way. i dont waist my time with reg... seed. i want al females, and i clone the shit out of my females, if the lady has bad traits i dont clone from her. just send her to flower, and smoker her up.

the only reason my friends like reguler seeds over females is b/c they like to cross breed things..... im not into all that work and the little bit of extra money to get female seeds are worth avoding the hassle of worrying about males or cutting them down. I've also noticed that Nirvana seems to be a very afordable place to get female seeds
