Your keeping the medium way too saturated. It's better to keep it almost dry than wet. They only need a tiny bit of moisture to signal that it's time to spout.

I wonder how many 'duds' the paper towel and water CREATES? Are you getting seeds that don't pop using the paper towel or water method?
If I buy seeds from a reputable breeder, it's a rareity that one is a dude - might of happened just a few times in all my years of growing.
In the beggining though, I had many 'duds' trying to soak them or use a papertowel.
It's not bullshit, soaking or using a paper towel is just a wasted step that creates human error, not to mention the fact that seeds evolved for a long time to sprout in the warm ground, not a pond or wraped up in a wet leaf.

I think u myt b ryt about the growing medium being too wet! I will try letting it dry out a bit & see if that wrx! This time around I am going to drop the seed in treated rockwool, place dome over & place in a warm dark place until I see them sprout up, then I will take the dome off & place under lights. & see how that wrx 4 me! I shall return! Any othr suggestion or warnings b4 I go bak 2 tha lab?

I concur with squidbilly. I plant my seeds directly in the pot they'll be growing in. Works fine only one dud in 3 plus years.

cold smoke it seems that you and I both might have s common back history with the plant/product from the way i read your comment and information about it i agree that you are 100% correct about easy but human errors being the problem i had about 50 seeds half from a bank and other from bag I needed to make a come up after losing a dear friend due to invasion of privacy and now he's a ghost somewhere but I lost my hook up soon after I felt the loss from lack of income tried to find a new friend week later gets pulled over for speeding with a backpack he didn't go home to say the least .. So I decided to give growing a shot and in the process few of my pals who I occasionally met and hooked up were later busted down because the city is getting hot with raids and crime this year between losing almost every decent connect I decided I'm stepping out of that scene don't get me wrong I was no big time at all maybe a pound ir two weekly but a extra 5k was helpful when you smoke as much as me and most kn here do needles to say I realized I had almost the same amount of money saved when I couldn't het my hands on it. Then it clicked I was in it for the wrong reasoning.and that is when I told buddy not worth it my wife and son are more important than money and IM not gonna risk something if I don't need to besides my wife and I have fairly awesome jobs for our age myself 28/wife 22 and my son2 that's why now l like I've said before I grow for me and only me! I can't get busted for something that nobody ever knows or talk about.. I'm great with security lol gotta love the infantry but now in becoming more in touch with the plants due for appreciation like I had when it was for my ADHD ptsd and all the things in between.. And I want to give them the very best to hopefully make up for the abuse I done with them they to make people feel better and stable nit for making money illegally if you got the ok from the bastard government then by all means partake in it but the 2500$ pound being flipped won't always be there for a retirement plan..but now I can't figure out all I want to know about plants trying new things* new to me km sure it's been done* but can't afford to many mistakes anymore safe is emptied out pretty quickly and wife don't want me spending much from our bank account so I just would need a little guidance if possible to insure that I don't lose out a whole another harvest cuz I'm sick of buying it from these immature jack offs on the street who over tax and are shady as hell.. Amazing how much better it feels to come to conclusion that I was smart enough or luckily enough to make a change when I did now just need to figure out how to make quality for myself and I would be one happy camper

I dont play well with wool either .
I just hated how the water can flow with the grain of the fibers and cause dry spots
I like plugs peronally even though I hate them for clones I still use them for seeds
after I sterilize I soak in ph water of 5.9 to 6.0 for seeds
then wring them out a lil drier then you want it to be
that wY when you spay with water the plug will get perfectly moiste... basically you want water and air in the plug or the seed will dampen off and rot

Ill try to help ya where I can sometimes you have to take your losses and start over.
its just hard to do anything online cause I cant be at your room you know what I mean.
You just need to take everything with a grain here some are very experienced others not so much

If you are using rockwool this time then you don't need to let it dry out. Better to soak and shake. Do NOT squeeze for obvious reasons. When you shake it out you will feel it lighten up. Shake the majority of the water out. Like I said before you can always add more water later if needed. Also make sure they are getting good water to start. I use R/O water because PH is perfect to start and once again takes out any human error. If you don't have a heat mat then find a warm place in the house. A lot of people use the top of the fridge or cabinet above fridge. Let us know how you go and good luck.

It is bullshit..soaking seeds 24-48 hours does not drown them.
I do agree however, that planting directly in soil is an acceptable method, and other than checking for viablility of the seed there's really no need to soak first.

First good advice yet Jimmer. Yep Its your temp and moisture control bro. Too much moisture and to hot or cold of temp coupled in with heavy moisture creates rot and mold and they really do need a little oxygen as they stay at the right temp of 75-85F for 2-4 days to keep them from rotting. I have a set of Chill Factor 3 freebies and 5pk of raspberry cookies with 1.5 days in wet paper towel with funky results. I think the 3pk of Chill Factor might have started to rot, I think accidentally let them do the same thing probably. I am very experienced but you have to know whats going on and be ready to adjust very quick when its happening. Its not like we can just set it and forget it because its not like Ronco did it for us…..LOL but my environment is a new design and has been taking some extra attention to get used to and tweak. I have to take a piece of card board and set it on top of my T5 ballast to make a heat mat placed in the perfect spot to keep warm as needed without the extra money right now o spend on a legit heat mat. I didn't do this on this at 1st this time and the chill factor got to cold I think and my medium which is a wet paper towel that has always worked excellent if I do it right was too wet. I just opened the paper towel to find the 3 pk had started to sprout but very little and it looked to wet. I freaked out because they did get put on the ballast last night but just without my cardboard shield for some dumb reason and they got extremely hot all night. FML!!! I said and jumped into action, taking the paper towel out the bag squeezed the excess water out and rewet it with a very light Super thrive vitamin solution and straight water mix. Very lightly rewet it and placed it onto of the card bard heat pad with the bag draped over the top to allow it oxygen still but not to much hopefully. I know at least 1 of the C.Factors rotted and the white sprout broke half off. It will probably die and the others will now be retarded probably from the stress. This kind of stress also can create more males in a group of reg seeds this early in the game. Im freaking the hell out too buddy. I just gotta do my best to try and fix it fast but I'm staying in all day just to make sure these babies get incubated back to life for the weekend.
