Seeds germed, then nothing. Help?

Why would roots grow more quickly in a small pot? If my roommate and I are just growing for ourselves, and we're pretty sure we have more than enough space for what we need.. can we not just put these peat pellets right into the 6X7" pots? That's the size I plan to keep the AK47 and Bubblegum mothers in. Then I suppose I'll start clones in more peat pellets. And then why not just put the peat pellets right into the 5 gallon buckets? Veg them for 4-6 weeks or until they're about 2 feet high. Then into the bud chamber and grow up to about 6 feet right? usually add 2/3 height?

Just seems like it would be less stress on the plant if you don't need to transplant it. From what I've been reading seems like thsi is for maximzing space, something I'm not concerned with.

Potting up is for building roots faster (not to save space) but you can do what you feel is right and what you plan to do will work but potting up is a common way to grow used by many including myself but its up to you what you do with your seeds. Did you read the 2 links i posted as that explains things a little better.
(good luck anyway).

Nope.. I have found no explanation of how using a smaller pot would build roots faster.

Makes no sense to me how that would work either. How would the plant even know how much space it had until it hits the edge of the pot? at which point root growth would slow down, I would think.

I've read around quite a bit now, including those links, and I've found no information at all that says using a smaller pot will make roots grow faster, nor any explanation of why this would happen.

If you cant understand the basics then i cant help you. If this link does not explain it well then i have nothing more to add.

Try looking harder next time and do some reading/study and you wont have to ask these questions as they are all here on the site.

Thanks for the replies. I have more bubblegum and AK47 on the way. I'll be using reverse osmosis water bought from the store this time. I guess it was my shitty well water that killed them.

Always had good luck before with paper towel method, but that link does make sense SIR SMOKER. Thanks for that. I guess I'll just be moistening some peat pellets, and putting the seeds directly into them.
dig down under the soil a bit...see if there coming.

When plants grow their roots, roots do not grow straight down, they grow out toward the edge of the pots. When you start in an oversized pot, it takes longer for the roots to develop and reach the edges. When you use smaller pots this happens more rapidly. Therefore, by the time you transplant, your roots are already looking for more space and instead of allowing them to continue in the small pot looking for space and possibly becoming root bound, you transplant to a bigger pot. Now that the plants are in a bigger pot they continue to search for space and continue to grow outward in the new pot. That is why "real" growers pot-up instead of automatically going to an oversized pot! If you want to start with a very large pot your growth is going to be very slowwwwwwwwwww. There are no short-cuts when it comes to such things.

This is different than the other two links you posted. This one actually does explain why to pot up, the other two links don't. I appreciate your help sir smoker, but I think you're maybe a little too hard on your own product. Tone down the dickhead knob.

I have already put the peat pellets into the 6x7" pots. I guess they might grow a bit slower. I'm not too worried, they're just going to be mothers anyway, they won't ever make buds. When I take the clones I'll use some red beer cups in between the 6x7" pots.

I'm wondering if going from the 6x7" to the 5 gallon buckets would be too big a step now, or if the 5 gallon buckets are too big for a 10 foot high space? The light takes up about a foot, the bucket about a foot and a half, leave some room under the light I could grow a 6 foot plant or so.

If you cant understand the basics then i cant help you. If this link does not explain it well then i have nothing more to add.

It could have been as easy as saying:

"when you pot up you ensure that the root system fills the entire size of the pot"

I didn't know that it wouldn't do that on it's own.

I already told you what to do. Its not my fault if you cant read or understand the basics. Next time ask someone else.

I told you why you should pot up but i guess you missed that bit and i told you why this is done so i dont see what you mean ????
I understand basic english as i am from the UK and i aint no champ and just a long time grower who tries to help newbies out but sometimes i ask myself. Is it really worth talking to a brick wall ?????.
You did not listen or read anything i posted and then had the cheek to say "Drop the asshole attitude". Sorry but i dont really have time to post things you should already know and its maybe best for you to start reading as you are asking a question that has a million answers at your fingertips but refuse to read up on via the site and FAQ. I am not here to hold your hand and was only trying to help via my knowledge but you persisted in asking the same question over and over again. What do you expect me to do ??????? grow the plants for you.

(anyway good luck).

Well, you were insulting my intelligence.

You really didn't explain why at all, until you posted that last link, which did explain why, and for that I thank you.

Keeping them in a smaller pot causes the root ball to grow more densly, and you don't get any emtpy pockets of soil. I wish you would have just said that, or posted the link which explains this first. Maybe you thought you had posted that one by mistake, because if I had read that, then I agree, it would be stupid to keep asking why, as it explains why. The first two links you posted do not explain why, they explain what.

There was obviously some confusion, but you really shouldn't resort to insulting one's intelligence.

I think this is done now. I'm going to take some pics and maybe start a journal. My leaves look a bit yellow, like they might want a bit of food.

Seedlings dont need feeding until around 3 weeks after sprouting.

There was obviously some confusion, but you really shouldn't resort to insulting one's intelligence (your quote). I did NOT you did me by quizzing me on such a simple issue.

Anyway its over and done with now.

Of course it does do that on its own. Once my girls are large enough I repot them from a 5 litre container into a 50 litre tub. After harvest, that tub is completely full of roots, they virtually totally replace the soil.

This stuff I keep reading about needing to repot 17 times is just more hokum - BS repeated by naive kids who have never grown anything else - and totally at variance with this grower´s practical experience.

1 Repot is plenty (small pot to final pot) and a 50 litre tub is far to big. I grow a 4ft plant in a 2 litre pot with no root problems whatsoever. A 5ltr pot is ample for a nice tall tree and potting up is the way to go for a nice plant with a strong rootbase.

Suits my plants fine. It is totally filled with roots at the end of the season - obviously you didn´t bother to actually read my post that you quoted. I would use a little bigger if one were conveniently available here.

A 2 litre pot - well that is going to be a skinny thing with precious little bud.

You appear to be unfamiliar with the expression - the bigger the roots, the bigger the shoots.
