Shnkrmn's Pickle Bucket Hempy Grow 2009

So I thinking your using perlite... I don't know it seems like it would all falll apart.. But the roots are pretty strong.. I grew dwc for a while and if the water got to hot or the air stone's got slimmed up.. I would some times have the roots die but would come back so they are pretty strong. But anytime you are dealing with the roots. number one rule is to be extra careful..
Ok so just so I'm understandint his correctly. You take the plant out of the 2gal container will all the roots and perlite still attached and transplant into the bigger 5gal bucket?

How do you pull the plant out of the first bucket? Carefully grab by the stem and pull up, does the perlite easily come with it?

Thanks for the help here, really appreciated

I've got a picture that shows me holding the whole root ball and it still has the shape of the container I took it out of. You really don't have to be particularly careful as long as your medium is wet. Just place one hand over the top of the pot, so the stem sticks out between your fingers; then turn the entire pot, plant and all, upside down, and press against the bottom of the pot with your thumb so it flexes. This should release the entire contents of the pot into your hand. Now you just set it upright in the larger partially-filled and pre=moistened medium in the larger container. Backfill and press it in a little and you're done.

You don't cut the plant!

well I am going to give perlite a try.. Just one plant next run.. Does your ph run high?
I would think when you water all the perlite would come up..
But no doubt you plants are killa..

pH is pretty stable in hempy; as long as what you put in is right, it'll stay there. The perlite kind of gets loose on top when you throw a bunch of water in there, but further down in the rootball it's all bound up with the root hairs and stays in place

I just use a little scalple... worked pretty good.. just gotta be careful!
I've read where some guys precut their containers and taped it; then when you want to bog just remove the tape and there ya go.

But I'm sure we've read the same threads!:hump:

Thanks! I figured you didn't cut the plant but wasn't sure. Is it best to start in a 2gal then move to 5gal rather than starting directly in a 5gal?

How long do you veg in the 2gal for before you transplant to the 5gal?

Thanks for all your advice, your plants look amazing. This technique seems solid.

I would start in a smaller pot so the roots have less distance to grow to reach the res. Likewise, when I repot, I try to have the bottom of the root mass sitting right above where the res level is in the new pot. That way, they roots are already where they want to be and don't lose any growth time seeking the res. Make sense?

I took one down today. I'm going to wait a while on the other two.

I only have a kitchen scale, so don't pin me down on weight, but I weighed the main branches at 900g wet after trimming. Subtract the lumber, add the popcorn buds which are about 100g, divide by 9.87, carry my wishful thinking. . . . . .

WHOA! That's a lotta weed.

I'm going to smoke some scissor hash and take the dog for a walk:leaf::leaf::leaf:

I was looking through the scope and deciding on my next victim when what do i see? Mites. Crap. Isn't it winter? Aren't I too far North? Why me, lord? they seem to be confined to the central cola of one plant but that's unlikely. I'm chopping it today, although I don't really feel like it.

Mites are everywhere.

Only pyrethrin will get rid of the eggs.

I use Bed Lice Spray from the drug store.

About $8

Spray your mattress and all the carpet,
don't forget the pets.

Do a google search for pyrethrins, pirethryns,
and you will see it is a good safe product
if you don't just inhale it directly from the can.

Just got back from Walgreens. Chopped up the infested plant. I still can't see any on my other plants but they have to be there. Or on the way.
