Smell at Harvest

Hello fellow stoners,

I'm hoping to get some insight on the smell of my plants right at harvest time.

Currently, I have 8 plants: 6 Blue Dream, 1 Amnesia Haze, and 1 Euphoria on day 60 of flowering. The Amnesia Haze, and 2 of the Blue Dream plants are giving off a very nice potent smell. The buds and sugar leaves are littered with trichomes, and my fingers stick together when I touch the bud.

However, I can't say the same for the other 4 Blue Dream, and 1 Euphoria. They also contain a good amount of trichomes, and have an overall nice look to them, but the smell is no where near as potent as the ones mentioned above. They have a rather grassy smell to them.

Tommorrow (22nd, October) will mark 2 weeks of flushing, and I plan to give them 1 more day of light, and 2 days of complete darkness before I cut them (24th, October).

Each plant grows in a soilless medium in 1-Gallon pots, and I've been keeping the PH around 5.8-6.0 throughout the whole life cycle.

All plants have been pretty much on the same feeding schedule, receiving the same types of nutes, so I'm wondering why the grassy smell behind 5 of the 8 plants?

I'll post some pics when I get home later this evening.

Pics? And flushing was a waste of time and water.

They probably are not ready to harvest. You can't go by the calendar. You have to go by when they are ready. Picking some day on the calendar based off of the flowering time you read on the description is a good way to harvest too soon. And flushing for two weeks? Why? You starved your plants when they were at the stage where they should have been bulking up and developing all those good smells.

Stop flushing suggested.

This is my first grow, and I'm still learning. Flushing was mentioned in a lot of posts, videos on youtube, and even in the book Marijuana Horticulture written by Jorge Cervantes. I'm not gonna argue whether it's a waste of time or not.

I'm here to get the question answered why 5 of my 8 plants smell grassy.

Like I said, I'll post pics when I get home.

Some strains smell grassy , usually grassy smell is associated with harvesting to early or poor drying/cure technique

Without knowing more I will tell you something you may already know but it could be as simple as you got a couple different pheno types. Unfortunately not all of them are GREAT or a keeper. When you have grown for a bit or run the same strain from seed a few times you will know when you find something special and worth keeping. Don't know your experiance level but if the environment was good and plants were cared for correctly my guess variation in pheno type.

Others here may chime in and voice there opinion. Wish the best for your grow. Happy growing.

Also they may change a bit for the better after a good cure.

Thanks for your response Diesel. I can tell you I've been taking care of them better than the children I don't have, lol. I grow in a 1 x 1 x 2 meter tent with a carbon filter, exhaust fan, and a 400 Watt light bulb. I have been feeding every 2 - 3 days, gauging the dryness of the soil by sticking my finger into it. I've also been rotating each plant 45 degrees every day since flowering started to get light evenly distributed across the plants.

Looking with a microscope, Trichomes are mostly milky with i'd say 10% amber. I don't want too much amber is I've read it will produce more of a couch lock, and I'm aiming to have more of a cerebral / energetic high.

Where are you checking the trichromes at the sugar leaves or the actual buds? If your not checking the buds it’s wrong.

The actual buds themselves. I take my scope and push it up against the bud itself. I also make sure not only to check the top cola, but also check several buds through the mid and lower parts of the plant.

Pics are coming shortly. Sorry for the delay.

Good luck, Mr. Know-It-All. They'll be fine. In fact they'll be fucking legendary and seeds will be sought.

So the plants with my bed behind it are the ones that give off a potent smell.

The plants with a dresser door behind them are the ones that smell grassy.

Well, I probably fucked my harvest up. Guess I'll put them back on light nutes at this point and just see what happens.

Thanks for the help everyone.
