everywhere i have heard that the plant likes to get dry between waterings soooo does that mean that it won't grow in the soil that retains moisture??? what should i do??? thanks!

Wait till its up and growing and thru germination before letting the pot dry out.

That is more true for a plant in veg or flower.

Also, 10 inches, bit too far for a CFL, get that light as close as you can without burning the tip, otherwise it will start stretching, get it like 3- 4 inches away.

thanks whew i thought i wasn't going to see the seed grow happy to know that i can grow it with the moist soil but i should transplant it later on right?

Well, what size container are they in right now?

You want to transplant when they get root-bound, but if your container is already the size you want to grow in, avoid transplanting as it will stunt their growth a bit.

Now unless it turns out that your medium is unsuitable for growing and retaining too much moisture, you will have to think of transplanting, as a tip, avoid something with lots of perlite in it. you want a mix with good drainage.
