yeah that sounds about right... the groove will likely get messed up, but if you have a tool to remake the groove you'll be golden.

glad to see that i wasn't the only one who had this problem, lol.. it sux too as i had just packed mine, went to put the lid on and it went on cross threaded, and i couldn't get that sonbitch open for the life of me..
what i had to do was take it to work, and grind a flat spot on one side so that i could put the flat spot in a vice so that it wouldn't keep turning when i put the vice grips on it.. after i got it open, the mechanic at work told me to put a lil oil on the threads as its made of aluminum and aliminum is soft and can get screwed up easily.

Twist it in small little burts. Like exert a bunch of energy for a second, relax and repeat till it opens. If not try to pry it open or somthing. Happend to me plenty of times

if nothing works put the bottom of the grinder into a vice(if you or know someone that has one) and twist it off it should work if it doesn't find the biggest pair of pliers and then twist it off hope this helps

use a hack saw and cut it in half. a magnet will remove any of the metal shavings. next throw the parts of the broken grinder out an automobile window at speeds in excess of 90mph an your way to the head shop.

aluminum is not attracted to magnets.............

use some jar grippy opener things. basically just puffy shelf liner cut into squares. i have used a monkey wrench. you can also try tapping it lightly with a hammer. you are already beyond the point of screwed. anything you do at this point will fuck up the threading. just worry about getting it open and plan on buying another one.

Mr.Stoned Pony and Fellow Enthusiasts -

i believe that the preferred Space Case happens to be titanium coated steel. most grinders are aluminum tho.. good reminder about aluminum n magnets. Mr. MacGyver, of days past, could take a universal fact like that and somehow rescue an entire crop from the brink of destruction. or, at least deliver the meds to the vaporizer -without fail- just in time.
