Some advice on My drying Box

Update.

Hi all i decided to allow my lady a little more time with nutes before i harvest. She had her last supper on tuesday and i plan on cutting her down on the 26-3-10. I will be using plain Ph6 adjusted water from now until harvest but i will let her dry out before harvesting.

I will post day by day pics of my drying box. I plan on running the fans for 12 hours a day in my box to see how quickly she is drying. I want this to hopefully take around 5-7 days as this seems average for a decent drying time.

Stumps got any other info on that drying box??

what do you want to know? not much to it. I used a lawn mower box. about 20"x20"x3' tall. I used tie wire and stagered lines across the box. think I have 8-10. Left the flaps on the box. to close I fold them up and use tie wire to close. have a small desk fan in side. place the bud turn on the fan close it up and then put a trash bag over the box. When I trim I leave a hook on the branch to hang. I've had a little over a qp in it. I think it hold a lb but might slow the dry time down some. rh at about 35-40 temps at 70-75. mybe some 80's but not much. Thats about it. Oh I used olive oil and a paper towel to clean/oil the wire to help stop rust.

HI All

An update about my box. I am running the fans 24hours at present as the branches have been in there since Thursday at 7pm.(man its tiring Manicuring)
Initially when i first hung the branches up i checked on my Hydro/temp gauge after they had been hanging for 2 hours and it was at 19C/66F 65% RH.
I am assuming that the RH was initially high because all branches and nugs were freshly cut.
Since then the RH has been slowly reducing again i am assuming this is because the branches are beginning to dry.
Now the RH as of 10mins ago was now down to 55% with temps stable at 19C/66F. I am going to run the fans 24hours for the next 1 to 2 days and keep checking my nugs to see how dry they are.
i am going to remove the smaller nugs when they dry as i understand that these will dry quicker than the bigger nugs.

I shall update on saturday with new pics of the drying nugs.

HI all

here is an update on my drying process with pics.

The Branches have been in the Drying box with the fans running 24hours a day since thursday at 7pm GMT.

I have now today changed them to run the same time as my growing area 12 12.

I dont want the buds to dry too quickly.

Check the pics i have tried to include as many pics as possible so you can see the nugs from different angels and lights.

They are measured against a AA battery.

P.s When checking to see if they are dry enough should i be trying to snap the main stem that the buds are hanging from? When this snaps are they ready to start curing???
I ask this as i am unsure which has to snap. The bud stem off the main branch or the main branch itself.
Any advice would be greatly received.

branches went into box thursday 19C/66F 65%RH
checked saturday drying nicely not too quick 19C/66F 55% RH fans changed to run 12hours
some the smaller nugs have dried so these are my testers...smokes well doesn't side burn very nice mix of body and head high. not a fantastic flavour but curing should help this.

smoke report of my monster
the initial aroma of the bud is almost a lavinder / chronicy smell.
texture is very dense

the smoke is very smooth with that now almost certain chronic taste

considering i harvested when only 10% of trichs had turned amber it has a very throbbing effect on the body.
very heavy indeed only able to have 2 spliffs before i decide thats enough for at least a few hours.

i cant believe how much stronger MJ is when you've grown your own

looks sweet, can't wait to use that idea on my upcoming harvest

just thought I would try and help with a drying tip, that I've learned from my past grows.

when drying, if your wanting your buds to dry as quickly as possible, another thing you can do.. to speed up drying.. is to take a razor blade,

and slowly and precisely cut the main stems.. right down the center of them with the razor blade. This will help speed up drying.

Hope this helped.. just trying to give back to the people that helped me when I first started growing.

yeah it is a good tip but i only grow for myself so i want the drying process to take as long as possible.

I have now found that if i run the fans on for only 6hours a day the dry takes alot longer and the smoke is much smoother.

Im not into rushing this .

now i cant wait for mine...how long did it take you from planting to smoking?
also do u think the drying box would work without fans?

Total time was around 14weeks from planting to smoking.

the idea of using the fans is to keep the air inside from becoming stagnant and to keep it circulating.

The drying box would work without the fans mounted on it but you would ideally need one inside to circulate the air inside the box.

thanks for the info my seeds are finally sprouting so it wont be for awhile tell i need the box im just preparing

Very nice thread Jon lots of useful info, im planning on chopping in about 8/10 days and ive got a box ready for them to dry in so its nice to see what others are doing
