Sometimes bigger really is better.

I've always worked with bigger pot theory. I've even been critized for the size pots I grow in.But when it's all said in done I finish with some big happy girls. Can't tell you how much scientific information we can take from any of this but people who use airpots swear by it's benefits. They swear by supporting healthy root growth plants, even trees, grow bigger and better.

are you ph'ing your water?
your going to want to pick up some general plant food or go to a hydro store and id suggest a simple one part nutrient like floranova it has all the essential micro nutrients needed. but if you start mixing nutrients you going to need to ph for sure

I'm not framiliar with airpots. Got a link?
Yeah more oxygen around the root system is better for a lot of plants. Except a few that like wet feet.
That's why aeroponics is great for growing weed.

Yeah I PH my water, my babies only get bottled water...for now.. lol and I'm on a 3part right now.. But I only did it once, then someone told me not too. But the directions say to start when its a seedling, so im confused.

i use the fabric airpots and love them. iv been all about the whole air root pruning hype. iv been wanting to pick up those plastic airpots for awhile

oh ok. yeah just use the gh 3 part at like 1/4th strength and your girls should be fine and start to take off a little bit.

I use seven gallon smart pots and i noticed zero difference between them and my plastic four gallon pots....

Im gonna chalk this up to poor ph or slow genetics ...when using bottled water, the ph is different between brands and even age etc ...i used to use it also and noticed sometimes it was coming in at 7.5 and higher ph. Also, the ph will fluctuate due to temp changes and sitting in the soil, check your soil ph also...

i never did i side by side with my 5gal smartpots but i really just like them because there great for holding coco for less messy tray haha. i just like to use them also to know i shouldent ever have rootbound problems.
to closetville id look up if you have a pure water store or just on of those drinking water stores, and you should pick up a 5gal jug(10) and you can get a 50gallon water account for RO water for 20bucks normaly. and if you do the math on your bottled water price per gallon its alot cheaper to get an account at a water store, its like 3-5 for a case of water and theres 3-4 gallons in a case of water so your paying around a dollar a gallon where as you pay like 30cents a gallon at a water store. and its more consistant water, my RO water comes out at a perfect ph 6.55-6.65

ahhh coco..another thing on my to do list. I'm frankly afraid to take that plunge. I'm really only comfortable in soil.

incorrect. but i appreciate your opinion.

edit..i didn't mean to sound condecending..i understand the whole pheno thing. but that wouldn't be enough to explain a 100% dif in growth. And i have other RRF's that are in 2qt pots that are all the same. this was just a study of how more roots equals more top growth.

Sorry Dannyboy, no disrespect intended here, but anytime you have a variable (phenotype) in an unrepeated test, the results would be inconclusive at best. To be a true scientific test, all of the variables have to be known and removed from the equation, and the results must be repeatable multiple times to be true. Under normal circumstances, I'd agree with you. But a one off test from seed could very well have a 100% difference due to phenotype variation.
The largest bud I ever grew came out of a 20oz party cup, from a 28" plant. That one Cola was over 2oz dry weight. It was a lolli-popped plant.
Science DOES agree with you insofar as root development/yield, but in my world, I have found that there are exceptions.

hi jack thx for chiming in. if i had put the little guy in a 2qt it would be as big as it's sisters. theres no doubt in my mind. should i make this a poll thread? and to repeat the grow would be hard on my schedule atm. cuz i'd have to get more rrf mainly. variables and botany lessons about pheno difs aren't for new growers. basics are. hense my thread. i THOUGHT it was a good idea at the time.

...and in a shameless attempt at showing you my led grow allow me to link you to here

jump in bro!!! its great just remeber to train yourself to 5.8 ph and mix in lots of perlite!!

i was just like you stuck on soil for indoor.but now i dont think i can go back. i always have to battle with bugs in soil indoor nothing really that bad but switching to coco just makes it one less thing. i must say though that i do miss how forgiving soil is, not that iv had any problems in coco but i just feel like i worry more.

Yeah, Man. Make a poll. It'd be interesting to see what other growers experiences are. And thanks for the shameless link. I'm giving LEDs a serious look, and am always glad to see others results. It helps me to make a more educated decision based on practical application, not opinion.
Are the panels not too high? (I have no idea here, I'm relying on your experience) I've bookmarked that. thank you.

yesterday the tallest plant was 8" from source. today it is 7". i was worried when i had to fork over 1800 big ones for three blackstars but now i'm glad i did.
there's NO heat and every fan leaf the plants pushed out is still on the stem, just as green as the ones at the top. if they get much bigger ima throw a floro panel in there. i got one about 60" long x 24" wide....so we'll see.
