Which do you prefer & why? For those who don't know the difference, here's a quick summary:

SOUR DIESEL: Skunky, gassy jet fuel taste. Creamy dank petroleum aftertaste. Darker green; heavy yield like a sativa. Effects more similar to a narcotic indica. Parents = Chemdawg '91 + Super Skunk.

Sour Diesel (California Pheno)

NEW YORK CITY DIESEL: Grape, mandarin taste. Colorful - yellow, orange, pink leaves & flowers. Effects are more focused & creative, less sedentary. Parents = Afghani + Mexican.

NYC Diesel (New York Pheno)

(I know a lot of it depends on how the plants are grown, different phenotypes, etc. But I'm just talking in general terms. These two strains are often referred to interchangeably when they're actually distinct so I wanted to get some feedback on what people like & dislike about each. I'm growing an auto Sour D of unknown parentage so just curious).

Not to sound condescending but if your shopping for a diesel your not looking for fruity.
Sour diesel is chem 91 x sensi/northern lights from what's been discussed by it's original creator.
Nycd is just a different "cut"
The Soma stuff is apples and oranges literally.
Yup. That’s what I’ve always heard. SD and NYCD are essentially the same thing, or just slightly different. IMO, if it doesn’t have chem in it, if it doesn’t smell like diesel, then it’s not diesel. Few breeders are actually making real diesels.

Sweet, thanks for the feedback! I tried one of the two several years ago but who knows which one it actually was. Best weed EVER. I don't particularly care about smells & tastes...only which has the more euphoric/happy high.

The autoflower I have now looks a lot more like Sour Diesel in the 1st pic, as there are no pretty colors or foxtail buds.

Edit: Breeder dude just got back to me: they're NYC Diesel seeds. I can live with that. :bigjoint:

they probably have samples from different breeders. i've got Blueberry seeds from Seedsman, Canuck, and Dutch Passion, they all three just say "Blueberry"...but only the seedsman info even mentioned DJ Short, and all three have different parentage info.

Dutch passion got seeds from DJ back in either 2000 or 2001 and I think help DP select a male or female or something but that was all.

I was gifted a cut of what was called ecsd and it had a unique flavor I wouldn't call diesel but it was sour. The thing would always end up make dew that at first people thought was resin goo but after researching and tasting it it was easy to see it was just excess sugar sap. But it was neat either way. And I doubt it was really ecsd

Now I'm reading what y'al are righting, but this is not how the strains are identifid let' first agree on this. Chem strain were described as halitosis ,burnt rubber funk with pine ,citrus taste on exhale.Diesel were gubbers rag (gasoline)diesel smells with a citrus, fruity taste on exhale.Sour diesel same as diesel except when rubbing stems you get a sour funk and when smoking you get a sour taste on inhale and exhale with a sour citrus or fruity taste hince the names guys.now what is it you trying to say cause I don' t what those strains your describing. Lol

I have smoked since 1965 and grown almost as long. I also drove OTR and operated heavy equipment. I'm very familiar with diesel fuel and have yet to smell or taste diesel in anything. Just speaking personally of course.

Good old number 2 Diesel fuel
Fucking hated it.
I worked on tractors for several years.

Having grown both from seed I didn't like the nyd, the smell, the bud structure all sucked. Could be I got a poor representation. But for now Im an sd guy. But I have to take it 10 weeks to get that good funk

What I did which was stupid was let go of my old cut assuming I could just get it back or easily replace it.
Nope so now Im dedicating a whole grow to finding a suitable replacement.
I have already spotted some familiar traits so hopefully I find it

Here are 5 of them.
Of course they are all over the place as far as bud structure, stretch etc.

The one im looking for had shorter dark green leafs with the fat tips.
It grew smallish buds but very good and a nice spiral.

So far image 2 and three are closest
Or 3 n 5. Lol
I don't know. Have to see

Diesel is subjective. All the chems have the same mother giving the original seeds. The diesel is separate in it's outcross to sensi/northern lights giving it a skunky sulphur tone.
Back in the late nineties I bought a bag of what was simply called Diesel. Smelled of burnt matches and rotted corpse, lots of pepper cedar and wet cigarette's on the exhale and incredibly uplifting high. Very potent.
I've grown the TD, GP, cali-con, green thumb, smoked the clone onlies and pick up allot of the different expressions described here, But only pieces of the one I originally remember
I avoid and cull the ones that have any fruit characteristics, cross in the pungent beauties that make the cut after a few test runs.
4 generations in and I'm happier with mine than with anything comercially available.
Completely disavowed Soma's abomination except to cross to ak47 and get a fruit salad type of deal that was quickly abandoned.
When I'm through this baby will reek of sulfur and brimstone and exhale like a good scotch.
Edit: my diesel
