I'm interested in threading with other sunlightshed cool cab owners with the theme of problems, work arounds, fixes and general growing with the cab rather than dont buy it (already own one) or u can build it cheaper (ya if ya wanted to)

:peace:I got a mini cab with fixed 400 W. but can only grow lowryders. took me two grows to figuire that out??? slow learner.. Then I still went out and bought the 10 gallon rubber
maid w/ airstones. Grows just as good as that exspensive cool cab. I have had problems
w/heat inside my cab, especialty down here in S Fl. But I had to back my unit up to a
A/C unit I have mounted in my garage side door. I have found there is no way you can grow 14 plants as they have drilled out in the top of the resivoir. I have covered 4 of
the netpot holes w/ Aluminum foil and I through 10 germed seeds in there hoping
for at least 5 girls. I know what your thinking. What happens when 5 of those ten are
males, and you've vegged for 3 weeks and all the roots are tangled together with the DWC. I have always cut the males once they show. I leave the net pot in with the roots
and give em a healthy dose of hygrozime That shit is supposed to decay the roots and turn into food for the other healthy roots. Another thing I have learned is to keep your resivoir at least 68 or lower. I use the frosen plastic ice blocks. I put one in every morning before i go to work. I love looking at them fisrt thing in the morning. Hopes this helps, let me know how yours turns out.
for 5 girls.

Hi BD
I just took 8 males out and did the same thing u did so far so good .... for the heat prob I got another 6" inline fan and put it on the exhaust side of the light tube and it seemed to fix the prob I have some other fixes listed in this link https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/48134-my-s-almost-time-harvest.html on the last page Here's a pic of my last 4 as of yesterday.... i think the next grow I will buy seeds

Have completed 2 succesful grows in my Cab despite newbie learning curve. #1 grow was a single female Jack Herrer (for trial) that taught me that there's no way 14 plants would fit. #2 was 5 White Widows that competed for light and space, but was about right (& great quality) with lower stem management. LESSON: Limit to 4-5 plants.

An issue with the CAB is leakage in the reservoir input. I am in the process of changing the grow reservoir (storage box) to a 5 plant config and better quality seals. Meanwhile I have used silicone tape (Home Depot) and is a temp fix.

Another change I made was changing the 1 gal reservoir to a 5 gal sealed bucket and placing it on the top of the cab. I used the grommet supplied w/ the 1 Gal and drilled a small hole in the bottom of the bucket. Lowers my maintenance involvement

I have the Cool Cab myself. The metal one. I have done a few grows and have definitely changed things from the first one. The first grow I did to the way they tell you and used everything it came with.
For the next grow I made a new res with a rubbermaid tub, less holes in the lid and made the inside easier to get into.
As for the pumps and such, I glues and plastic partition tub with slits and holes like thing inside the res to hold the pumps (so the roots stay out of them).
I changed nutes too, no more clogging lines. I now use DNF which is clear.
I bought this sifen drill thing too that really helps emptying and filling the res if you need to drain it like when you flush out. It is a thing that goes on the end of your electric drill and has 2 hoses and a motor in the middle, turn the drill on the it either goes in or out, lol. No lugging or moving the res, just stick the hose in the flap I made on the lid. Easy. I also don't bother using the extra res ont side or back. I just fill up a 20 litre pail, nute and ph it, fill the res as need with that mixture. I check them daily so no worry of going dry. I am now flowering some pot in soil the cool cab, have them just sitting on a piece of wood on the bottom under the 400 hps. I am glad I bought this Cool Cab for sure. I am sure over grows there will be more modifications.:peace:

as far as the res inlet valve goes the black tube they use is the wrong outside diameter for the furrel fitting I used the next size up tube I got from HD and a new furrel and it worked great no more leak ..... I have been thinkin of getting a 20 liter pail for the outside res cause when I had the 12 plants growin it used the full tank up in 24hrs .... I use a sub pump from an aquarium shop ..... I also had to modify the tube conection at the water pump .... it had the tube glued in the pump outlet and kept coming out so I put a 1 1/2" long 1/4" inside rubber hose over the outlet barb then I put the tube inside a small rubber hose then fit it all together and that stopped the underwater leaks and now I can pop the hose off the barb and put on a 3/8 hose to drain the res .... DNF would be a lot easier for me to get from the local hydro place is the quality as good as the flora nova I don't have any other grows to compare but my plants seem to grow quickly with the GH

My last grow also got too tall, so I had to remove the cloning shelf, drill 2 more holes in the top of the cabinet so I could hang the light from the ceiling to let the plants finish off, I vegged them too long before flowering and they shot right up, Those sativas eh, lol. That gained me a couple of feet. The shelf come in and out easliy enough as not bolted in or anything.:peace:

I was wondering bout removing that shelf cause it is usless as a clone area unless u want ur clones in flowering phase or u want to interupt ur plants dark cycle

It does come out easy enough, just lift it up and turn it to get it out. I also made a flap to go from the shelf to the inside of the doors to help that light stay out of down there. It was not light proof, but works well. I used some cardboard the same length and duct taped it to the shelf, cut out the notches of the doors and hinges ad it worked great.:peace:

when I got my shed 2 1/2 weeks late it never had cloning dome thing so I called and he said he was sending 1 .... when I finally got it 2 days short of a month later it turned out to be tub one with the fan and light in it so I think I will use it separately next grow I am going to seal up 4 holes and shorten all the drip tubes so they cannot touch any stems

cheers!

The fix I made for the light leak on the cloning was to extend the shelf with a strip of cardboard which I covered over with that foil duct tape (gotta love that stuff). Then to seal it in, I put weather strip seal (that sticky backed foam stuff) along the edge of the door to press against the shelf to seal in the light. It works.

To help you with the second photo, you're looking from inside the cab, up to the shelf. That's the door on the right hand side and the shelf is the that strip running from bottom left to top left of middle. Let me know if you need any explanation.

On the SS website they mentioned that the stuff the lined the cab with was stuff that wouldn't allow infra-red (or whatever heat seeking camera the feds use) so that the heat from the cab couldn't be detected. Anyone know if this is true. The stuff they lined the cab with looks just like one of the sun screen things for the windshield of a car.

Never heard of that. I really don't think your 400Watt light is gonna be noticed by heat
seeking helicopters. They are after big grows w/ like 12 1000 watts lights in grow houses.

Yeah, that's what I figured. Lemme look for the link.
BTW, my cool cab came with a 600w free (cos they couldn't get any 400w) upgrade.

Ah.. here it is on their website Hydroponics : Hydroponics Systems

With built in door locks, and infrared proof Mylar interior, this is one secure system! Buy yours today and grow HUGE JUICY fruits and veggies!

You think that's just a load of crap or is it really IR proof, and if it is.....? Thoughts?

Milf ... ya I saw the exact same stuff as in the cab at HD in lots of different sizes and it was reasonable price ..... Ive located everything that the cab is made from or comes with it except the drip nozzels

I only use my drippers till the roots reach the bubble water, then I unplug it. I do use the fogger however 24/7 my roots love it.

When I've figured out the cab properly then I'll look into hydro. I do like the smell of dirt though. This time I'm using some FoxFarm organic stuff, it's lovely. Mmmm. :)
