Taking clones to go into hydroton

So I want to take my first batch of clones (ever) and wanted to know if I HAVE to have some kind of rooting gel or if I can just take the cuttings, and place into 1-inch rockwool cubes until roots come through? Thanks!

If you take a cutting and it goes limp that means air got in the stem, that is what cloning gel is for. If the stem goes limp you can even make a new cut to save it. I used cloning gel at first, now I don't and I lose about 2 out of 100 clones I take, but I take extra clones.

Alright I figured that the gel was just to prevent an air embolism, but the rooting hormones don't make that big of a difference?

What do you put your cuttings into? Do they go into a tray with a dome?

I use the Stinkbud cloner, no dome or anything and most do use clonex solution, I don't. I just use straight tap water. I post this link a lot here because this cloner can be used for a lot of things. There is a whole system there and I use it but I grow dirt too and the cloner works for that for example

Cloner is the top one: http://www.stinkbuddies.com/downloads.htm

You can use gel for a better chance of them rooting but you can just place them in the rockwool(make sure no air gets in) place them in a dome and spray from time to time should root within a week.

Thanks for the info guys.

I used Clonex gel when i took the cuttings one of the times i used a rooting hormone powder and that didnt work that well .

I must not be cutting the clone the right way if that possible or the cutting im taking are jus too small

when i select a cutting i wanna take do i need a Node to be under the soil or woolrock . i hope this makes sence lol
im so smashed right now

Try this......Take a cutting an put it in a glass of water, tell me how long it will take to die, it wont it will start roots. It will take a bout two weeks but it is that easy. I have been doing this for the past year with great results.

FUCK ROOTING PRODUCTS!!

When you do put it under the dome do you leave the vets open or keep them closed? I have been looking all over but no post really make it clear......

closed at first and slowly open them.

I have an aeroponic cloner. I don't use a dome and I get the cuttings to root in a week or less. Also use a rooting hormone called Vita Grow. Here's some pics of my cloner in action....Orange Bud cuttings getting some roots.

you leave the vents closed in tell you see some sign of roots then open the vents so the roots get a little bit of fresh air.

Dude those are some healthy root starts, very nice.. Yeah I need to make a bucket cloner too, I love this cloner process it rocks.

Cloning is very cheap and simple, I have a double tray with dome, single 2 ft. t-5. Cuttings are 2-4 inches green and first node is usually 3/4 to 1 inch above cut at 45 deg. with clean razor, right into gel (juicy roots) trim big fan leaves back, stick snuggly in pre-soaked rapid rooter plugs, into closed dome w/heat mat below, dont water again until u see roots, and only few oz. fresh water under plugs.
